Brand History

Luminox was founded in 1989 by Barry Cohen, a veteran of the watch industry. Cohen discovered a self-powered illumination system from Switzerland which he knew would make watches more visible in low light situations. The name Luminox is derived from two Latin words, lumi means light and nox means night. Luminox' big break came about in 1993 when the Navy Seals were looking for a watch they could use for night missions. Assisstant RTD&E officer Nick North discovered Luminox at a trade show and worked with Cohen to develop a watch specifically for the Navy Seals. The watch designed for the Navy Seals ( the Model 3001) was released around the world. In 1999 Luminox developed watches for the US Air Force and Lockheed Martin. The brand have now successfully taken their unique technology to over 30 countries around the world.

Luminox watches use a unique technology to glow constantly for up to 25 years. All Luminox watches include small gas lights (borosilicate glass capsules) on the hands and hour markers. The lights are always lit which means that the watches are always readable no matter what the conditions you are in.
