The History of Ingersoll Watches

Ingersoll was founded by Robert H Ingersoll and Charles Ingersoll. In founding Ingersoll they had an ambitious plan – to release high quality watches to the general public at an affordable price. The production line for Ingersoll watches was developed in 1892, producing the watch which made the brand famous. The watches produced by Ingersoll cost just $1 (a days wages at the time), over one million of these “Dollar Watches” were sold. In 1896 Ingersoll worked with Henry Ford to create an automated watch production line, greatly reducing the amount of time to create their watches. Over the years the Ingersoll brand became known worldwide due to their links with public figures. One of the most famous examples was 24^th President Theodore Roosevelt, who was famously called "the man from the country where Ingersoll watches are made." Even Gandhi declared his Ingersoll watch one of his most prized possessions!
