The History of Guess Jewellery

Guess was founded in 1981 by Georges Marciano when he produced a book of styles. He enlisted the help of his brothers – Armand and Paul oversaw distribution and advertising while Maurice helped with product development. The name was chosen when Georges travelling past a McDonalds sign which asked drivers to “guess” which restaurant had the biggest burger. When he got back home he told Maurice “I think I’ve found our name. Guess.” Maurice offered a few different suggestions until Georges clarified what he meant! At the end of 1981 the brand was launched and it was an instant success with sales hitting $6 million in the first year. The brand has had a lot of celebrity links with Claudia Schiffer, Kate Upton and Eva Herzigova have been in huge ad campaigns. Guess clothing was also worn by Michael J Fox in Back to the Future. Today Guess is a worldwide famous fashion brand with over 400 stores all over the world.
