For many following the lives of celebrities is not only a source of entertainment. The lives of the rich and famous have become a goal to strive for as well as a source of inspiration. For similar reasons, celebrities are often trend-setters. In our new series we’ll look at celebrity-inspired engagement rings and we’ve decided to start with the a celebrity couple, and ring, which has recently been prominently featured in the public eye.
On Wednesday the 12th of January musician Machine Gun Kelly and actress Megan Fox announced their surprise engagement. The couple was first rumoured to have started dating in May of 2020. After almost two years together, they are considered one of the more unconventional Hollywood pairings. The Jennifer’s Body star posted a video of the big moment to Instagram. Machine Gun Kelly, whose real name is Colson Baker, also posted a video of the magnificent ring to his social media page. In the caption of his video, Baker explained the meaning behind the ring and where he got his inspiration.
Designed by him in collaboration with British jewellery designer Stephen Webster, the engagement “ring” is actually two rings with magnetic bands. The singer went on to elaborate on the reason behind his choice. The large emerald is Megan Fox’s birthstone, while the diamond is his. This was also meant to signify the coming together of the pair as a couple and connecting spiritually. The ring is designed so that when worn together the two pear-cut gemstones form an asymmetric heart. The bands are set with additional diamonds, giving the already glamourous ring an even more sparkling appearance.
Emerald Engagement Rings
Emeralds are one of the oldest gemstones used in engagement rings. They are connected with truth and love. In ancient Rome it was seen as the gemstone of Venus, the goddess of love. Emeralds are also the birthstone for the month of May. Though emeralds are famously used in jewellery, the gemstone is not as hardwearing as some of its counterparts such as sapphire or diamonds.
This beautiful emerald engagement ring stands out with its shine and glamour. The ring is made of 9-carat white gold. In the centre is set a pear-cut emerald gemstone. It’s surrounded by a halo of diamonds, highlighting the luxurious appearance of the ring. More diamonds are set into the band. There is total of 29 diamonds.
Pear-Cut Engagement Rings
The pear-cut gemstones are amongst the more popular cuts. The cut was created in the mid 15th century. Since then the gemstone has remained a favourite amongst jewellers and customers alike. The cut is a combination of the marquise and brilliant cuts, giving it a unique shine.
This pear-cut ring features a large pear-cut diamond in the centre of the band. On either side, set into the ring is a baguette cut diamond. The combination and positioning of the two cuts gives the ring a subtle vintage appearance. The band itself is made of platinum. The metal is known for its bright silver-white tones. In combination with the diamonds, the ring has an almost glowing appearance.
When buying an engagement ring another great choice for a gemstone would be your partners birthstone. Many couples, celebrities and not, choose to have theirs or their partner’s birthstone as a symbol of the relationship on the engagement rings. Tanzanite for example is connected to December, while Ruby to January.
Amethyts is the birthstone of those born in February. This elegant amethyst engagement ring combines the beauty and meaning of the gemstone with a sophisticated modern design. The band is made of 9 carat white gold. The band is set with diamonds. Surrounding the amethyst in the middle is also a halo of diamonds. The amethysts has an emerald-cut giving the gemstone higher durability as well as making it appear slightly larger than it is.
