Bulletproof Watches at Baselworld 2018

There are many different materials that are currently being used to create watches. Over the past year we have seen materials as wide as car parts and even moon dust featured in wrist watches. This year at Baselworld there seems to be a bit of a trend with more than one watch being developed from bulletproof material!

It’s interesting to see so many manufacturers deciding to make these watches at the same time, but it is exciting to see this new trend. Lets take a look at the bulletproof watches on display at Baselworld 2018.

How Are These Bulletproof Watches “Bulletproof”?

One of the most popular materials for people to create wrist watches from today is ceramic. It has a lot of great benefits such as being temperature-resistant, hypo-allergenic and is much, much harder than steel. It is also resistant to becoming rusty, rotting or scratching as well.

One of the other great qualities to using ceramic is that it is actually bulletproof! Now, it’s unlikely that buying bulletproof watches will ever lead to the watch saving your life… no matter how quick your reflexes are! But there is no doubt that having bulletproof material in your watch is incredibly, incredibly cool.

The Bulletproof Watches at Baselworld 2018

There are a few manufacturers who have made incredible ceramic bulletproof watches at Baselworld 2018. The Grand Seiko Ceramic Hi-beat GMT was developed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Seiko high-frequency Caliber 9S. This device uses ceramic in the outer case and centre links, with titanium being used in the rest of the device.

TAG Heuer have created the Tête de Vipère Chronograph Tourbillon Chronometer in 2018. This watch is TAG Heuer’s first to receive the Besançon Obervatory Tête de Vipère stamp. This stamp means that it has passed a 16-day accuracy test in five positions at three different temperatures. This device includes ceramic in the case, bazel and lugs.

Hublot have actually took the time to create their own new red ceramic which they are using in their watches. It took them four years to develop their own red ceramic using heat and pressure which ”sinters the ceramic without burning the pigments.” This ceramic is used in the Hublot Big Bang Unico Red Magic, which is a 500 piece limited edition.

Rado are one of the manufacturers who popularised the use of ceramic in watches. The Rado True Thinline Nature collection features a lot of incredibly beautiful devices which any watch lover would love to own! These watches feature ceramic in the cases and the bracelet.

Conclusion

Baselworld 2018 was an incredible watch expo this year, with all of the top watch manufacturers showing off their best watches. It is great to see these beautiful luxury watches being manufactured out of ceramic, which is a really great material. It’s a luxury material which feels good and adds some fantastic benefits because it is so incredibly tough. Any owners of watches crafted from ceramic will also enjoy knowing that their “bulletproof watches” are perhaps the coolest watches you can possibly own!
