Liverpool and Spurs clash head to head in Madrid for the highly coveted Champions League trophy. Both teams have experienced fantastic runs to get to the final, in a week of football that no football fan will ever forget. A Tuesday night at Anfield where a relentless Liverpool side took it to Barcelona, and managed to overturn a 3-0 deficit in a dramatic 4-0 victory! This was then matched by the magic of Lucas Moura, who managed to bag a hat-trick for Spurs as they won the tie in the last minute against a very strong Ajax side.
Now, looking to the final, Liverpool are expected to be slight favorites, going in to their second UCL final in a row, but in reality, it’s all to play for! However, we are not here to look at football today, we are interested in what the teams have been wearing off the pitch! Sport & watches go hand in hand, and both players and managers have a fantastic collection of watches, that we are going to be looking at below!
One of the more surprising things when doing the research for this post was the price of watches that some of the players own. Of course, there are a few that own extremely expensive pieces, but the majority are relatively ‘cheap’ in relation to their wages! Most, if not all, players on this list earn in excess of £100,000 a week, yet it is only Mo Salah that has been spotted in a watch worth over that amount! These watches are not cheap in any respect, and i’m sure every player has that one special piece hidden away at home too!
So, take a look below at what some of the Champions League hopefuls have been wearing, and let us know who’s style you rate the most!
Manager of Liverpool FC, Jurgen Klopp definitely has a big personality, and he likes to show it too. This IWC is certainly a reflection of this. Particularly the Ingenieur Dual Time. Reference-IW324402, which is bold and strong, yet refined and stylish, just like they was Klopps men play on the pitch!
Klopp may not have been able to win a trophy at Liverpool yet, despite consecutive finals, but this IWC most certainly is a trophy for his wrist. This model has an RRP of £7,250 and is a preferred model for game day!
Mauricio Pochettino has become a master of working with what he’s got, and it looks like he spent more money on himself than he did in the transfer window! The piece we have picked out here is the watch that he wore on that night in Amsterdam! You might have actually seen him go to take it off as he celebrated the win in a rush of adrenaline! A bizarre celebration, but a great way to get your new watch on TV!
The watch in question is the IWC Pilot Timezoner Chronograph. Reference-IW395001. ICW are clearly popular among managers, and it’s clear to see why! This model has a list price of £10,250.
Virgil Van Dijk, the 2019 PFA Player of the Year. He has been largely credited for the success of LFC this season, and has put in fantastic performances all season long.
A well deserved Player of the Season award meant a well deserved treat for Liverpool’s number 4. He attended the PFA event in this stainless steel Travel Time Patek Philippe Aquanaut. Reference-5164A. A classy piece for a classy player. A reliable, smart, and robust piece, just like VVD himself! this Patek has a list price in the UK of £26,050, so a step up from his managers!
Christian Eriksen is arguably Spurs’ most valuable player, a vital cog in the wheel. The Dane has consistently put fantastic performances in for the London club, and has cemented himself as one of the best play-makers in the league.
Eriksen has a very similar taste to Van Dijk, when it comes to watches. He also has chosen a Patek Philippe, the stainless steel Nautilus. Reference-5712/1A to be exact. With an RRP of £30,530, this is definitely a luxury timepiece that will feature on most peoples wish list! It may not be the first thing you think when you think of sport watches, but it’s an ideal game day piece for the Spurs man!
Mo Salah, last years player of the season, and this years top scorer in the Premier League has had yet another great season in the Champions League. Not only has he been working his magic on the pitch but he has also been announced as being part of the Time 100 list too!
Attending the awards evening, the Liverpool winger was spotted in quite the watch. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT. Reference-26589IO. Any piece from AP can be classed as the height of luxury, and it seems that Mo agrees! At £204,000 it doesn’t come cheap, but a weeks wages for someone like Mo isn’t too bad!
Harry Kane has become a legend for Spurs, and England after his performances over the last couple of years. The striker is a natural finisher, and a fantastic all round player. He has consistently helped spurs to get better and better, but has had a season plagued by injury. It looks like he may just be back in time for the final however!
One of our favorite watches on this list is his Skeleton Stainless Steel Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. Reference-15407ST. The shape of the case, paired with the skeleton dial make this such a fantastic piece, that we are all dreaming of owning! The not so small price tag of £37,200 isn’t so much of a worry for the England Captain, i’m sure.
Gini Wijnaldum had gone as somewhat of an unsung hero during his last couple of seasons. However, the Dutch man has really come in to his own this season and become a fan favorite. He even scored two in as many minutes in the dramatic win over Barca!
His watch of choice is certainly a show piece that will grab attention every time he walks in to the dressing room! A bright white Richard Mille RM055 ‘Bubba Watson’ that has a skeleton style dial, but is mainly completely see-through! This watch retails at £65,000, but is well deserved after the season Gini has had! This is a model that definitely walks the line between sport watches and luxury watches!
By the looks of things Dele Alli has either been on a shopping trip with Harry Kane, or just been borrowing from his teammates wardrobe! The attacking midfielder is hoping to bring his talent and flair to the final in Madrid, playing against, and with, many of his England teammates.
Dele has opted for an 18k gold version of the Royal Oak that we saw Kane wearing. This model is slightly different whoever, and is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel. Reference- 15407OR, which has a price tag of £60,000!
The Liverpool captain is another who has found more success this season. Being tested in a more advanced position, Jordan Henderson has managed to regain the support and love of Liverpool fans around the world. Alongside Gini Wijnaldum in the midfield, Hendo will be looking to make a mark in Madrid.
His choice is very similar that of teammate Virgil Van Dijk, and opponent Christian Eriksen. His Stainless steel Patek Philippe Nautilus. Reference-5980/1A-014 has an RRP of £36,000 and stands out thanks to its polished steel inner ring in the 6 o’clock postition!
