Exciting New Design for Apple Watch 2018

Apple are a company who know how to create iconic and recognisable designs. The design of the Apple iPhone inspired almost every smartphone which followed it and the iPod did the same with MP3 players. The Apple Watch wasn’t the most original design, despite Apple managing to create the most beautiful smartwatches on the planet.

One of the most impressive aspects when it comes to Apple’s designs is that they like to bring them up to date to ensure their products stand out. The Apple Watch 2018 is expected to be the first attempt for Apple to rework the their smartwatch design and it is expected to be an exciting new look. Let’s have a look at the anticipated design of the Apple Watch 2018.

Exciting New Apple Watch 2018 Design

All previous Apple Watch devices have featured a rectangular shape which has been the usual shape of choice for smartwatches. This screen shape has always felt natural with the design appearing like a smaller version of the screens on other mobile devices. But Apple are planning on changing this in their next wearable device according to a new patent.

The Apple Watch 2018 is expected to utilise the patent for “Electronic device having display with curved edges” which was granted on Tuesday May 8th. This patent shows a circular screen and explains how a circular screen could be used on their wearable device. The explanation for the patent shows the reduced pixel count and irregular columns and rows which make up a round display in contrast to that of a rectangular display.

Apple put forward different methods for making the display more efficient and for getting the most out of a circular display. The vast majority of the patent demonstrates the way such a design would work and it also hints that this could be useful in a watch-like device.

How Else Could This Technology be Used

While the most likely application of this kind of technology is use in the Apple Watch 2018, there are rumours of other uses. The patent itself mentions how it could be used in a “pendant device” and in headphones. This suggests that it could be used in very small devices which could open up the opportunities for Apple to bring exciting new devices to the market.

Apple have been working on all sorts of different devices in recent years including VR ad AR headsets like the Oculus Rift, which this technology is perfect for. It could also be implemented in the smartglass devices that Apple have been working on as well.

Will the Apple Watch 2018 use a Round Screen?

It is rumoured that Apple will be using a round screen in their latest watch but there is no guarantee that will be the case. Apple file patents on a regular basis and many of their patents never make it into their devices. Plus, many Android Wear devices and fitness trackers use round screens, which would not make this a stand out feature in a new wearable.

It has been leaked that the round screen has not been ruled out but, beyond the patent, there’s nothing particularly pointing towards such a change.

It’s expected that the Apple Watch 4 will be released in September this year alongside a new series of iPhones. There will undoubtedly be even more rumours between now and the release of the new Apple Watch. Keep your eyes peeled for all of the latest rumours and any announcements made between now and its release!
