Gearing Up For Apple Watch 4 Release

Apple may not have been firing on all cylinders with their phone releases recently but nobody would deny the popularity of the Apple Watch. The first Apple Watch was arguably not the runaway success that people might have expected but it was successful! It was probably one of the most successful smartwatches at that stage – but the expectations were that it was going to be a game changer. And it didn’t redefine the market like the iPod and iPhone did. Thankfully the second and third Apple Watch managed to fix where the first one went wrong!

One of the biggest criticisms of the first generation watch was the lack of any real unique selling point. The Apple Watch did not do anything that other smartwatches couldn’t do (in some ways, others did them better!) and it also did little that an iPhone couldn’t already do. The second generation watch did a great job of incorporating fantastic fitness tracking features and the addition of GPS in the third generation improved things even further. The question as we gear up for the Apple Watch 4 release is – what are they going to do next!

Let’s take a look at the latest rumours,

Selfie-Snaps on Your Apple Watch 4?

While the third generation watch started to bring photography to your wrist, it required a connection to the camera on your phone. For many people, this was quite disappointing as they were hoping to be able to use a camera without having to reach for their iPhone! It looks like Apple may just be fixing that when the Apple Watch 4 comes to the market

There’s nothing announced yet, but patents have recently been unveiled which show a selfie camera usable on a wearable device. While many might be excited to use Snapchat on their wrist, there are even more exciting uses of such a camera. One of the most exciting uses of this camera would be the possibility of Facetime calls on the move on your watch. This is now more possible thanks to the addition of LTE data on the Apple Watch.

EKG Heart Monitoring on Your Wrist?

The health monitoring sensors on the last Apple Watch were a big step forward in wearable health monitoring. This was a large reason for the popularity of the latest version of the device. The next step for Apple seems to be something that many would never expect to see on a consumer wearable device. A recent report from Bloomberg states that Apple is developing something pretty amazing – an EKG heart monitor.

The current prototype requires wearers to squeeze the device between two fingers allowing a current to pass across the chest to track electrical signals in the heart. According to reports Apple are still developing this further – and they will have to meet strict requirements before it can be released. So, this may not be ready in time for the Apple Watch 4, but we’re hoping that it might be.

Upgraded Specs

Each Apple Watch has had interesting upgrades to the battery life, processor and connectivity. It’s expected that this will continue on the newest Apple Watch allowing it to be the most technology impressive with the longest lasting battery. KGI Securities, who have been correct in the past on Apple Watch specs, suggest in a recent report that the Apple Watch 4 will use the liquid crystal polymer technology used in the latest iPhone’s. This is good news for people using LTE technology as it will allow the connection to be much more stable on the Apple Watch 4.

Of course, these are all rumours and a lot could change between now and the release. So keep an eye out for the latest Apple Watch 4 news as it arrives right here on First Class Watches!
