Junghans 160th Anniversary Watches

Junghans will be celebrating their 160th anniversary on the 14th April 2021. In order to celebrate this momentous occasion, the brand have announced the launch of new Junghans 160th anniversary watches.

The brand was founded in Schramberg, Germany in 1861 by Erhard Junghans and Jakob Zeller-Tobler. The Junghans brand became one of the world’s largest clock manufacturers and has since become a popular name in the luxury watch industry. The brand is famed for its use of the finest movements and highest quality materials and have gained an excellent reputation due to the superiority of its timepieces. To celebrate the 160th anniversary, Junghans is remembering the brand’s past to recognise its roots and heritage. However, it is also ensuring to look into the future in order to advance Junghans’ technologies and carry the brand’s name long into the future.

The Meister Signatur Handaufzug Edition 160

The first of the new Junghans 160th Anniversary watches is the Meister Signatur Handaufzug Edition 160. Limited to only 160 units, this watch is a true collector’s item. This model is reminiscent of some of the brand’s very first wristwatches and has a classic, vintage look. The gold and black colour scheme of this watch is timeless, having remained elegant and fashionable for decades.

The matt, silver-plated dial features Erhard Junghans’ signature to remind the wearer of the history and heritage of their new wristwatch. The dial exhibits applied gold baton hour indices and applied dot minute indices. The gold hour, minute and second dauphine hands are diamond cut for an elegant touch. The dial is protected by domed sapphire crystal that has been treated to be anti-reflective on both sides. This ensures for optimal readability, even under the brightest lights.

This model is powered by a historical hand-winding movement of the calibre J620. The watch is a nod to the brand’s past and so uses a traditional, vintage style movement to celebrate 160 years of Junghans’ watchmaking. This movement has a power reserve of up to 45 hours. It is housed in an 18-karat gold case that measures 39mm in diameter and 10.3mm in thickness. The 5-times screw fastened case back is made of anti-reflective sapphire glass to allow the wearer to observe and enjoy the hand-wound movement within.

The Meister Signatur Handaufzug Edition 160 is secured with a black leather strap that fastens with an 18-karat gold buckle. This gives the watch a timeless look, ensuring that it will match any outfit for any occasion. The watch is water-resistant up to 10 bar, meaning that it can be worn for some water-based activities. This makes it an incredibly practical and stylish timepiece that will never go out of style.

The FORM A Edition 160

The FORM Collection is one of the most recent Junghans launches, and so the brand has used this model to create a special edition anniversary watch that represents the brand moving into the future.  The FORM A Edition 160 is limited to only 600 units, making it very desirable and collectable. The design of this Junghans 160th Anniversary Edition watch embodies modern, German industrial design, enabling the brand to continue its journey into the future of watchmaking.

The bowl shaped matt black dial features striking red detailing at 12 and 6 o’clock with an inscription that reads “Junghans Automatic Black Forest Since 1861”. This phrase reminds the wearer that this timepiece is a piece of Junghans’ horological history. The hours are denoted by grey baton indices and a date aperture features at the 3 o’clock position on the dial. The hour and minute hands are filled with a red, environmentally friendly luminous substance and the second hand had a red tip made of the same substance. The dial is protected by flat sapphire crystal that has been treated to be anti-reflective on one side.

The FORM A Edition 160 is powered by a self-winding automatic movement of the calibre J800.2. This movement is a relatively modern invention and so is used to symbolise Junghans’ progression into the future. It has a generous power reserve of up to 38 hours. A matte black PVD plated stainless steel case houses the movement. It measures 39.3mm in diameter and 9.5mm in height. The dark case gives this timepiece a chic, contemporary appearance, propelling it into the future of horological fashion. The 4-times screw fastened case back features a Black Forest motif to show that Junghans is still deeply connected to its history despite its continuous progression and advancement.
