World famous pop star (and watch collector) Usher married his girlfriend Grace Miguel in secret this summer. In fact the marriage was so secret that no-one found out about it until Miguel posted a picture of what appears to be a Cuban honeymoon on her Instagram!
I’d like to offer my congratulations to Usher… and say it’s pretty scary that journalism appears to simply involve keeping an eye on people’s social media accounts these days!
Of course, something I’ve always been more interested in is Usher’s watch collection.
Watch Collector Usher
Usher is well known for his love of watches, even though he admits that he doesn’t acutally use them to tell the time! Usher told the Daily Mail that he actually has to ask people for the time despite always wearing a watch, “I’ve got 40 watches. But – man, you’ll really love this – not one of them has the right time.”
Usher’s love of watches started when he started receiving them as gifts and, before he knew it, collecting them became a passion. His first watch was a baby Cartier Santos, given to him by producer Jermaine Dupri after his first number 1 single, You Make Me Wanna in 1997.
In another interview Usher explained to the Daily Record that he always travels with at least 4 watches. I have to wonder which four watches he chose to take with him on his honeymoon! He explained that his watches are not all high end and that they range from “Cartier and Rolex to Seiko and G-Shock.”
Usher explained that the first watches he brought was a Rolex, because it represented success. But afterwards his choice of watches that he buys and wears comes down to one thing – “It’s about what suits me.”
One thing he usually stays away from when he chooses a watch, however, is diamonds. While he occasionally likes to wear something a little flashy, he said that he gets more value in a watches weight. Which must be something that his friend Damon Dash was unaware of when his company designed a watch for Usher featuring his face and 1,106 diamonds (wow!) The watch is valued at around £1 million, which Usher said he will probably auction it for one day.
It seems like Usher has a love for collecting all sorts of things. He’s collected number one singles and albums all over the world, including last years “I Don’t Mind” which went to number one in the USA. He has also collected hundreds of suits and over 10,000 pairs of shoes, which is about 9,996 more pairs of shoes than I own.
What About Usher’s Marriage?
Very little is known about Usher’s marriage, other than the story that Usher married Grace Miguel in the summer. The only proof anyone actually has is the photo which was posted to Grace Miguel’s Instagram. It was rumoured that they were planning to get married in a big wedding in Atlanta but they appear to have changed their mind.
Grace Miguel is also Usher’s manager and Usher has spoken about her in the past; stating that, “She has helped me through some of the hardest times in my life and my career.”
So, once again, congratulations to Usher and Grace Miguel!
