Baselworld Day 5: Fabergé Egg, Djokovic Special Edition and the $40 Million Watch

So we’re on to Baselworld day 5. In the last day we have had lots of big exciting announcements from brands such as Seiko and Fabergé. The news coming out from the event don’t seem to be slowing down, so we have a lot to look forward to over the next few days.

These are the big announcements that have been made during day 5 of Baselworld!

The Seiko Djokovic Special Edition

According to Seiko, the winner of the Australian Open and yesterdays Indian Wells final, Novak Djokovic, often chooses the Kinetic Perpetual watch for an evening out. The brand has announced the release of the special edition “Premier Kinetic Perpetual” series. It has been designed to mark the steps on Novak Djokovic’s journey towards the status of tennis legend.

The series is called the “Novak Djokovic Special Edition”. The watches reflect the clay, grass and hard courts that Djokavic plays on throughout the year. The watches also have Djokavic’s initials on the back of the case. The timepieces come in a special presentation case.

The Kinetic Perpetual watches have a special way of conserving energy: the movement of the wearer powers the watch, but when the watch is taken off it goes into sleep mode, but remembers the time and date for as long as four years. As soon as you place the watch back on your wrist it “wakes up” and sets itself to the correct time and date, this feature will work automatically up until February 2100.

The price of the watch will be around 760 – 810 Euro’s (approx. £556 – £592).

Mondaine Helvetica Smart No.1 Update

Mondaine Helvetica No. 1

The Mondaine Helvetica Smart No.1 that we covered recently has been on display this week at Baselworld. The watch has received great feedback on the design and the build quality. The most intriguing feedback is on the activity tracking. It has been reported the watch is “more detailed than the likes of Fitbit.” An interesting feature of the watch is the smart alarm, which can be set to wake you in the lightest part of your sleep cycle- which is proven to make it easier for you to wake up.

There is still no price announcement just yet, but estimates appear to be around the $1,000 mark (£667).

The $40 Million Watch

Graff Diamond’s unvailed the “Fascination Watch.” The timepiece is made up of the finest white diamonds and can be transformed from a watch into a bracelet by removing the watch face. It also includes a 38-carat flawless diamond which can be removed from the watch and worn as a ring.

This is only Graff’s second year at Baselworld. At their debut last year they displayed the “Hallucination Watch” which cost $55 million and included over 110-carats of diamonds. This years they’ve managed to top themselves with the Fascination Watch which includes 152.96-carats of diamonds.

The price of the watch is coming in at a cool £27 million ($40 million).  Sometimes the phrase “Time is Money” definitely takes on a more literal meaning!

Fabergé Unveils New “Imperial Egg”

The new “Pearl Egg” has been hand-crafted in the same manner as the original eggs. Astonishingly, it includes approximately 3,300 diamonds and 139 natural pearls! It took around 18 months to design, get hold of the materials and build the egg.

The “Pearl Egg” will be on display until the end of Tuesday. After it is taken by its owner: Hussain Al-Furdan, founding director of Investcorp, who has paid a seven-figure price for it!
