The Inspiration Behind the Timepiece

In 2020, Maurice Lacroix collaborated with the Geneva-based watchmaker, Label Noir. This inaugural collaboration was a reinterpretation of the iconic, urban-themed Aikon; it sold out within minutes of being released. Keen to repeat this great achievement, Maurice Lacroix has joined forces with the watch personalisation specialist once again.

Founded in 2011, Label Noir has gained a reputation for revisiting designs and masterfully working with a black and white colour palette to deliver a new and unique expression of style. Maurice Lacroix also tends to revisit their designs, so this parallel links the two brands together perfectly. Occasionally, Label Noir plays with a pop of colour to evoke excitement, however, it’s their application of monochromatic hues that has led to the brand’s great success.

When it comes to the technical part of the watch’s design, it falls under the Skeleton category. These watches can trace their roots to the 18th century. While both Maurice Lacroix and Label Noir understand the traditional technique for open working a movement, they are also aware of the potential issues that can stem alongside it. Therefore, Maurice Lacroix has developed and designed its own in-house movements which addresses these possible flaws.

The Dial and Movement

Maurice Lacroix and Label Noir have designed this brand new timepiece to catch the eye of any onlooker. Its black and white colour scheme provides a though-out contrast; allowing it to stand out and showcase its contemporary style. The dial of this skeleton watch reveals various components that are often hidden from view. The keyless works, motion works and gear train are all freely shown. As well as this, the spring barrel features an openworked cap which showcases the mainspring in different states of tension. Next to 12 o’clock, the wearer can see where the screwed balance wheel oscillates to and from. Matte black-plated hour and minute hands also adorn the dial. For optimal readability, they are coated with white Super-LumiNova.

Sapphire crystal glass, with a double anti-reflective coating, protects the dial. While providing great clarity it also adds to the watch’s impressive durability levels. A manufacture ML134 calibre, with Grand Colimaçon and sand-blasted finishing on the main bridge, powers the timepiece. This movement provides up to 45 hours of power reserve, so the watch is a great option for daily wear.

The Case and Finishing Touches

To ensure the watch stands out on the wrist, a 43mm gunmetal DLC-plated stainless steel case frames the dial. This material is extremely hard and scratch-resistant, so the unusual beauty of the watch will remain preserved; even if it has been knocked. An exhibition case back, protected by sapphire crystal, allows light to pass through the movement. As well as this, it reinforces the unique nature of this Maurice Lacroix and Label Noir collaboration.

The timepiece comes presented on a matching M-branded black nylon strap. For ultimate comfort and security, it is paired with a folding clasp. Moreover, the watch is water-resistant up to 50 metres, so it is an ideal companion for daily styling.
