Seiko Announce Presage Style 60s Road Trip GMT

Seiko Presage Style 60s Road Trip GMT

Today, Seiko announced the release of the Presage Style 60s Road Trip GMT series. These three new models are an extension of the brand’s existing Presage Style 60s line. Characterised by its distinct 1960s influence, the collection effortlessly fuses high-precision timekeeping with Seiko’s quintessential Japanese aesthetic. This 1960s style was originally inspired by both Seiko and Japan’s first-ever chronograph, which was released in 1964. As the name implies, the Road Trip GMTs build upon this vintage look by sourcing inspiration from iconic 1960s cars. Each model is influenced by the design of retro car wheels, components, and colour schemes. The launch will include three different colourways, including petrol blue, stone, and fume.

Core Feautures of the Collection

The Presage Style 60s Road Trip collection is as mechanically impressive as it is aesthetically pleasing. Marking Seiko’s mastery of high-precision timekeeping, each model operates on a 4R34 calibre movement. This is an automatic movement with manual winding, which has an excellent 41-hour power reserve.

Additionally, the Road Trip GMT collection boasts several useful dial functions. These include hour, minute, and seconds hands, as well as a date aperture and a GMT hand. Perfect for an avid traveller, the model’s namesake GMT complication makes international timekeeping easier than ever. Allowing the wearer to track multiple time zones at once, this incredibly useful feature allows you to read global time in just one quick glance.

Durability-wise, the Road Trip GMT watches are also very reliable. The collection is water resistant to 50 metres and can withstand light water activity. Moreover, each model is equipped with a box-shaped hardlex crystal. Unique to the Seiko brand, hardlex is ultra scratch-resistant and more durable than average mineral glass.

Echoing its automotive influence, the Petrol Blue Presage Style 60s Road Trip GMT features a muted blue colour palette. Central to the design is the ‘petrol blue’ dial, which exhibits silver tone baton indices and hands. Moreover, for optimal readability, the indices and hands are coated in LumiBrite coating. Encircling the circumference of the dial are Arabic numerals which increase in five-minute increments, adding to the vehicular feel of the model. To frame the dial, a black bezel sits on top of the 40.75mm wide stainless steel case. This is then tied together with a sleek stainless steel bracelet, which enhances the cool blue tone.

The second model in the new series follows a more neutral colour scheme. A light stone-coloured dial allows the hairline finish to take centre stage, which highlights the model’s mechanical essence. Complementing this are luminescent silver-tone baton indices and hands, which can be read even in low-light conditions. As an added pop of colour, there is also a bronze-coloured GMT hand. Similarly to the petrol blue model, the stone model is framed by a dark bezel that is brown in colour. Finally, to top off the design, a black leather strap secures the watch to the wrist. Its perforated finish once again demonstrates Seiko’s consistent attention to detail.

With a deeper colour scheme than its counterparts, the final Road Trip GMT model has a fume grey dial design. Replacing the silver-tone indices and hands featured on the other models are warmer gold-tone accents. Ingeniously, each element of this design is composed in a way that reflects 1960s car dashboard dials whilst maintaining a minimalistic contemporary look. Adding to this aesthetic, the deep brown bezel features beige Arabic numeral 24-hour markers for the second timezone. To complement this, a brown leather strap echoes the same perforated detailing as its predecessor.

The Seiko Presage Style 60s Road Trip GMT is available to preorder now ahead of its official launch in May.
