New Seiko Presage Sharp-Edged Open Heart Series

Seiko Presage Sharp-Edged Open Heart

Seiko has expanded its Presage collection once again, and the brand announced the launch of the Presage Sharp-Edged Open Heart series. The existing Sharp-Edged collection is recognisable for its multidimensional ‘sharp-edged’ silhouette and Japanese Asanoha textured dials. However, the two new models introduce a stylish skeletal twist to the design.

The Dial and Case

The Presage Sharp-Edged Open Heart collection is designed to be robust and reliable. Crafted from stainless steel, the case is coated in super hard coating to protect the inner mechanism of the watch. With a diameter of 40.16mm and a depth of 13.52mm, the watch makes an impactful impression on the wrist.

Both models in the collection feature a similar appearance. Positioned slightly left to the heart of the dial, a transparent circular window gives a view into the movement. Overlapping this slightly is a sub-dial which aligns with the 6 o’clock positioning. However, the stand-out feature of the dial is its textured Asanoha pattern. Also known as a hemp leaf pattern, Asanoha has been used in Japanese design for thousands of years. It still holds a special significance in Japanese culture today and is said to promote growth and good health. On the dial, the geometric edges of the pattern create subtle colour variations depending on how the light hits it. This gives the watch an intriguing appearance that can be admired from all angles.

Two colourways are available in this series. The Presage ‘Shiro’ Sharp-Edged Open Heart (SPB415J1) model features a clean white dial that’s perfect for everyday wear. The light tone of the dial lifts the overall design of the model and looks very pristine on the wrist.

The second model, the Presage ‘Ao’ Sharp-Edged Open Heart (SPB417J1), features an indigo dial. Rich and eye-catching, this colourway would be a great option for someone who wants to make a vibrant statement with their timepiece.

Both models have silver-tone LumiBrite hands and tapered indices, as well as a sub-dial that matches the main dial colour.

The Movement and Finishing Touches

With an impressive accuracy of -15/+25 seconds per day, the Open Hearts’ movement isn’t just for show. Equipped with Seiko’s own 6R5J calibre, the movement is automatic with manual winding. Moreover, the model’s 72-hour power reserve means that the watch can last up to three whole days on a single charge.

As for finishing touches, the watches in this series are completed to perfection. In addition to the open heart dial, the models also have exhibition case backs to show off even more of the watches’ technical mastery. To secure the watch to the wrist, each model is complete with a stainless steel bracelet. Providing ultimate security, this is fastened by a stainless steel three-fold clasp with a push button release. Versatile and malleable for any occasion, the bracelet gives each watch a timeless finish.

Beyond its sleek appearance, the models are also incredibly durable. Firmly protecting the dial dual-curved sapphire crystal. For improved legibility with no glare, this also has an anti-reflective coating on its inner surface. Additionally, the watches are water resistant to 100 metres or 10 bar.

The new Seiko Presage Sharp-Edged Open Heart is available to pre-order now prior to its official release in June.
