Introducing the Baume Ocean

Baume Ocean

Baume and Mercier have recently announced the release of the Baume Ocean. This new model was crafted to symbolise the brand’s intention to establish an ecological ethic. The Baume Ocean was created in collaboration with Waste Free Oceans (WFO) and SEAQUAL INITATIVE, two organisations that collect plastic debris from the seas and transform them into innovative products.

The new Baume Ocean comes in two different colour variations, blue and green. These two pieces are housed in the Baume collection, first launched in 2018. It shares some of the unique design features of other models within the collection, which Baume and Mercier found successful.

Baume Ocean

“The BAUME OCEAN Limited Edition from the BAUME collection is much more than a product. It symbolizes our determination to support our partners – WFO and SEAQUAL INITATIVE – in their daily combat against marine pollution, and to participate in a global consideration of the Brand’s role in today’s society,”

David Chaumet, CEO of Baume & Mercier

Design

One of the key design features of the Baume Ocean is the off-centre crown which sits above the 12 o’clock position on the dial. The case measures 42mm and is crafted using a recycled plastic cap produced by the NGO WFO. The case is then sheathed in blue or green anodized aluminium. The cap is made up of 80% recycled plastic gathered by Waste Free Oceans and reinforced with 20% glass fibres to increase its resistance.

Both Baume Ocean colour variations come with an interchangeable strap in a material called SEAQUAL® YARN, made with upcycled marine plastic. The grey PET strap comes with either blue or green stitching depending on the model and is lined with natural corking for comfortable wear.

Function

The Baume Ocean is not only unique in style but also in function. It comes with a centralised hour hand and a distinct hour display. These timepieces are powered by an automatic movement with a 38-hour power reserve and come with a Sellita SW200 calibre. The swiss made movement features 26 rubies and has a frequency of 28800.0vph/4.0hz. For optimal functionality, the Baume Ocean showcases a date display window above the 6 o’clock position on the dial.

The Baume Ocean is limited edition and is an excellent combination of balanced design and technical expertise. It showcases a unique vision that inspires Baume and Mercier to keep pushing the boundaries of traditional watchmaking every day. In line with the Baume commitment – donating 2% for each Baume timepiece purchased, Baume & Mercier is committed to donating 5% of its sales from the Baume Ocean Limited Edition collection to the NGOs Waste Free Oceans and SEAQUAL INITIATIVE in order to contribute to coordinated actions combating marine pollution.
