Oris have announced their newest limited edition timepiece, the 57th Reno Air Races watch. Since 2010 Oris has been Official Timepiece sponsor of Don Vito’s Swiss Air Racing Team. Oris’ 57th Reno Air Races limited edition watch is a way for the brand to still commemorate the event, even though the event has been cancelled this year. Available in only 1000 pieces, this attractive timepiece is sure to become this year’s must have watch for every aviation enthusiast.

An Unforgettable Event

The National Championship Air Races, also known as the Reno Air Races are an event which spans 5 days in September. It’s hosted at the Reno Stead Airport in Nevada, USA. Known as “the world’s fastest motor sport” each year close to 200 000 spectators gather to watch as air show pilots compete for the prize in 6 classes. The  Reno Air Races were first organized by World War II veteran Bill Stead in 1964. Since their conception, the races have become the highlight for aviation enthusiasts each year with both races and demonstrations by fearless pilots.

Oris became involved in the races through sponsoring Don Vito Wyprächtiger in 2010. As of 2013, the pilot became the first non-American to win the Formula One Gold race in the event’s half a century history.

Oris’ 57th Reno Air Races Limited Edition

Oris’ 57th Reno Air Races limited edition watch uses the basic design of the Oris Big Crown ProPilot models. The case measures 41 mm in diameter and is made of stainless steel. The case bezel and crown have been PVD plated in a dark grey. A ridged bezel, characteristic of the Big Crown collection is also featured on the case. A sapphire crystal protects the dial. It’s domed on both sides and has anti-reflective coating on the underside. The black dial is contrasted by large white Arabic-numeral hour markers and tapered white hands. Both the hands and the hour markers are filled with Super-LumiNova luminescence. Blue detailing is featured throughout the watch’s design. The watch’s strap is made of textile. It is black on top and blue on the inside. It closes with a grey PVD coated folding clasp. The watch case back features a special engraving. 

Oris’ 57th Reno Air Races Limited Edition

A circular date indicator is featured in the middle of the dial. Other functions on the watch include a 24 hours central hand, hour, minute and second hands, a date and 24 hour corrector, a fine timing device and stop-second. The movement on the watch is automatic and has a 42 hour power-reserve. The watch has 25 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 A/h.
