Hamilton has a longstanding relationship with film and movies. The brand has collaborated with numerous movie franchises and series over the years. Some of its most recent partnerships include Man In Black: International and the TV show Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime. Carrying on their legacy, the brand has announced its partnership on a project for Christopher Nolan’s newest Sci-Fi action Tenet. Inspired by the prop created for the movie, the brand has released the Hamilton Tenet watch, a limited edition of the Khaki Navy BeLOWZERO.
In collaboration with the movie’s design team, Hamilton was tasked to create a highly futuristic timepiece. It needed to be created custom for the movie as what was required of the timepiece was not available in any Hamilton watch. Though challenging after 18 months of research and preparation, Hamilton did what it does best and combined expert craftsmanship with innovation and creativity to bring the Tenet watch to life. The movie prop was inspired by the Khaki Navy BeLOWZERO and features a digital display on the dial.
To celebrate and commemorate the collaboration on the Tenet movie, Hamilton has released a limited edition of the Khaki Navy BeLOWZERO, or the Tenet watch, inspired by the movie. The special edition comes in two variations, one with a red-tipped seconds hand and one with a blue-tipped. The choice of colours is a reference to the movie and its aesthetic. Each colour variation is limited to only 888 pieces. There are 888 timepieces as a nod to the name of the movie, as 888 as Tenet is a palindrome.
The watch itself is sleek and stealthy with a highly utilitarian look. Other than the coloured tip of the seconds’ hand the watch design is in all-black. Its case is large, measuring at 46mm and is made of lightweight PVD coated titanium to ensure comfort. The black strap is made of silicone. In order to increase the durability of the watch, the matt black dial is protected by a sapphire crystal. Large luminescent Arabic numeral hour markers and sword-shaped hands aid in reading the dial in the dark, as well as underwater. Being inspired by the Khaki Navi BeLOWZERO model, the Tenet watch is water-resistant up to 100 bars or 1000 meters. The timepiece has an automatic movement with an H-10 calibre and has a power reserved of 80 hours. The model, however, doesn’t feature the digital display which can be seen on the custom made movie prop.
For the packaging, Hamilton has collaborated with the production designer for Tenet, Nathan Crowley, who has also been the production designer for Dunkirk, The Greatest Showman and several Batman movies amongst others. The exquisite packaging inspired by elements of the film, makes the watch stand out even more. The packaging of the watch matches the colour of the second’s hand and holds clues to the movie’s plot.
