Men’s Fashion Styles: Steampunk Watches

steampunk

The steampunk fashion style and watches go hand in hand. You may be wondering firstly, what is steampunk? Steampunk is a sub genre of science fiction and fantasy. It is always set with a historical victorian style backdrop which is powered by steam rather than the technological advancements we know and use today.

Here is a short clip for those who want a little peak into the steampunk culture:

The culture of steampunk began in the 70’s, however it entered mainstream pop culture back in the late 2000’s and is still popular today. Steampunk can be interpreted in the form of books, films, music, make up, festivals and much more, however, today we are exploring the genre in terms of watches so without further ado, here are some steampunk watches.

Ingersoll Mens 1892 The Herald Automatic Brown Leather Strap

Ingersoll

Once of the most iconic features of steampunk is the mechanical side which is powered by steam. Although our watches aren’t powered by steam this watch by Ingersoll is an automatic watch, which is powered by the movement of your wrist. The skeleton dial means that you can see inside the mechanical side of the watch, a common theme in the genre and our list of steampunk watches recommendations!

Rotary Mens Silver Dial Brown Leather Strap

Another common convention of the style is not only the skeleton dial but the brassy tones that come with genre. As steampunk centres around steam powered mechanics it’s only natural that the colour themes are usually brown, copper, silver and brass. So this watch by Rotary hasn’t only made it due to it’s skeleton dial but also because of its brown and brass colour scheme.

Weird Ape Kolt Automatic Black Leather Strap Stainless Steel Case

Weird Ape

This watch by Weird Ape has similar features to the previous two timepieces such as the skeleton dial and automatic mechanical movement, however it also has some unique features. The steampunk style of this watch stems from it’s bezel which resembles a cog, an iconic feature of mechanise in the genre. For those who like a darker steampunk style, the strap of this watch is black leather unlike the regular brown.
