Happy Birthday David Bowie! #BowieForever

Millions of people around the world are celebrating the birthday of English singer-songwriter David Bowie today, born on the 8th January 1947 in Brixton, London he became on of the biggest British icons in the world. Know for songs such as Space Oddity, Heroes and Under Pressure he also branched out into acting and featured in some incredible films that I remember from my childhood such as Labyrinth (my personal favourite), The Man Who Fell to Earth, The Prestige and The Hunger to just name a few.

Many people, businesses and groups are paying tribute to this international star in a number of ways, for example the V&A museum in London are hosting a David Bowie event for anyone who is interested it features a lot of photographs, album sleeve artwork and memorabilia, charting the creative process of one of the most pioneering and influential performers of modern times.

I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring.

The sad news of David Bowie’s death vibrated around the world with almost every magazine, website and e-newsletter containing some mention of the legend himself. News agents shelves were overflowing with magazines all featuring a famous image of David Bowie often with the renowned lightening strike across his face. The world wasn’t about to sit down in sadness, instead millions of people came together to pay tribute to the legend that was David Bowie and created artwork, music, sculptures, wrote articles and even made Youtube videos all to celebrate the life of David Bowie.

The David Bowie Limited Edition Freelancer watch comprises of only 3000 models worldwide, the collaboration with the David Bowie Estate was a huge step for the watch manufacture Raymond Weil and for the David Bowie Estate too. The watch itself was designed and manufactured to celebrate what would have been the 70th birthday of this international icon and it has been dedicated to just a few of the many personas that the talented singer / songwriter created whilst he was alive. He was widely known as an artist with unparalleled creativity, a singular visionary, a man of a thousand faces and voices. David Bowie’s final masterpiece, ★, was released 2 years ago and undoubtedly received some of the best feedback of his entire career. It actually won five Grammy Awards and two Brit Awards back in 2017.

RAYMOND WEIL presents the Freelancer David Bowie – a tribute to Bowie’s love of Art and which depicts three of his most iconic personas through the use of intricate watchmaking techniques resulting in a true master piece. The black galvanic vinyl dial is adorned with a red lightning bolt at 12 o’clock, commissioned by Bowie during the Aladdin Sane era and that became one of his most iconic features of the imaginary character. The red pop art Bowie logo designed by Andy Warhol for the diamond dogs album is positioned prominently on the dial. The case-back features a sapphire crystal glass with double-sided anti-glare treatment, adorned with a portrait of David Bowie taken by the legendary portrait photographer, Terry O’Neil, who also played a significant role in the design of this unique timepiece and which was taken during Bowie’s Thin White Duke era. The timepiece is completed with a unique Limited Edition number, engraved into the case-back and a certificate of authenticity, signed by RAYMOND WEIL’s CEO and Terry O’Neil.Hours and minutes are conveyed with barrel shaped hands, lined with luminescent treatment, aiding legibility in dim light. Silver indices denote the hours and a chapter ring encircles the dial. The RW 4200 movement offers convenience courtesy of automatic winding. The stainless steel watch is presented with a black calf leather strap with coordinating red stitching and a stainless steel folding clasp.
