Baselworld Day 3: Schwarzenegger, Indestructable Watches and Jaguar

So, we’re on day three of Baselworld; if Baselworld was a movie then today would be the day that all of the watches gain consciousness and start an assault on humanity which leads to the end of the world as we know it.

Thankfully, Baselworld isn’t a movie, but the good news is that if it does happen then we know that the watch-led civilisation of the future will have impeccable time-keeping skills.

In the real Baselworld 2015, where we aren’t at any real risk of the horological apocalypse, we have some great news and updates for you today!

Victorinox Swiss Army Announce New INOX Watches

Victorinox INOX

The practically indestructible Victorinox INOX range has some new limited edition additions to the range which have been unveiled at Baselworld.

If you haven’t seen the amazing demonstrations on Victorinox’ YouTube channel of exactly what the INOX watches are capable of withstanding. Then check out this video of a drop test on one of the INOX watches from our own YouTube channel (don’t forget to subscribe).

It looks like there’s been some more crude tests of the indestructible qualities of these watches at Baselworld, with Esquire Magazine’s Twitter feed announcing that they had smashed a chair against one and it was still working fine!

At Baselworld 2015 Victorinox have announced some new designs including a stainless steel bracelet, a classic red watch and an awesome Naimakka paracord bracelet, which is very popular with the Twitter crowd!

The Terminator Watch?

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been previewing his own brand of watches at Baselworld, the Schwarzenegger collection is intended to be a “more affordable” alternative for people who like large, luxury sports watches. The average price is expected to be around $1,000 (at the current exchange rate that’s £666… although I’d imagine they’d try to avoid the satanic connotations of that price point!) and the watches represent different parts of his career.

The first collection is the Schwarzenegger Legend Collection which references his career in bodybuilding. The designs are inspired by weight room equipment and the straps resemble weight belts.

The second collection is the Schwarzenegger Hero Collection which are linked to his action movie roles in the Predator and the Terminator.

The third collection is the Schwarzenegger Heritage Collection, the watches in this collection carry a smarter, refined look that links to his role as Governor of California.

The watches have been produced in conjunction with the Magnum Group, a Brazilian watch manufacturer and distributor who distribute a lot of watches in Schwarzenegger’s native country.

For the Schwarzenegger collection Magnum have given him the creative licence to design the watches in his own vision and are producing the watches in Switzerland rather than in their own manufacturing plant in Brazil.

The Schwarzenegger Collection is expected to be released in Autumn 2015, following his return the Terminator role that made him famous in Terminator Genisys, which hits our screens this Summer.

New Jaguar Watches From Bremont

Jaguar MKIImage: Jaguar MENA

Car manufacturer Jaguar have been working with Bremont to design two watches inspired by the classic Jaguar E-Type from the 60’s.

The two companies worked together last year to produce limited edition watches to compliment Jaguars “continuation” E-Types. These watches were made from white gold and aluminium and cost upwards of £14,000! However, both the MKI and MKII, are made from stainless steel and are going to be much more affordable.

The design of the watches has been produced in conjunction with Jaguar to ensure that they closely resemble parts of the E-Type cars – for example, the numbered dial on the MKI only covers three-quarters of the clock face so that it resembles the displays on the E-Type dashboard.

The MKI costs $10,950 (approx £7,322.95) and the MKII costs $6,550 (approx £4,380)… less than half the price of last years limited editions!

There we have it, more incredible news from day 3 of Baselworld, don’t forget that we’re keeping you up to date with everything that happens throughout the entire 7 days of the event.

So, as long as the watches don’t become sentient beings and rise up against us, Dale will be back tomorrow with all of the news from day 4 of Baselworld!
