In 1965, Oris tapped into the zeitgeist with its first dive watch. Its fit-for-purpose stainless steel case and bidirectional bezel, with a unique dial design, captured the hearts of many. And now 60 years later, Oris has launched a watch that faithfully revives the charm and character of what has become one of the Swiss company’s most loved and iconic models. The new watch has notable differences, such as its case size and upgraded movement. But these are merely a frame for its signature elements; namely the vintage detailing on its black dial. An iconic design with a modern touch, if you want to take a deeper plunge into the new Oris Divers Sixty-Five watch, read on!
A Brief Timeline of the Divers Sixty-Five
As mentioned earlier, in 1965 Oris introduced its first dive watch. The design captured the creatively unbound spirit of the time, as well as the emerging appeal for recreational diving among the adventurous. This was a watch for the intrepid and ambitious.
2015 saw the watch celebrate its 50th anniversary, and to mark the occasion, Oris launched the Divers Sixty-Five. The watch is a faithful re-interpretation of the vintage dive watch and its only difference is the use of modern materials and mechanics. In 2016, Oris unveiled the ‘no numerals’ version of the Divers Sixty-Five. As well as replacing the retro-inspired indices with simple, highly legible lume-filled hour markers, the watch’s silhouette has an update; giving it more of a contemporary feel. This year also saw the introduction of a chronograph variant and various collaborations with prestigious retailers and media outlets.
Almost a decade after the release of the Divers Sixty-Five, in 2024, Oris announced the Divers Date, a versatile everyday sports watch. Alongside its evolved design, the new watch saw a number of performance upgrades; a robust 39mm stainless steel case and 200 metres of water resistance but to name a few. Each variant draws inspiration from a 1960s industrial palette and features a bespoke typeface developed exclusively for the Divers Date collection.
This year, Oris is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its Divers Sixty-Five. And in true Oris fashion, there is a beautiful watch to go alongside it. With an iconic vintage design and modern-day mechanisms, it is a timepiece that both divers and enthusiasts will enjoy!
Oris Divers Sixty-Five: 60th Anniversary Edition
Like the 1965 original, this model features a stainless steel case with a bidirectional rotating bezel and a unique dial design. The case size, however, has increased slightly from 36mm to 40mm, ensuring the watch complements a larger variety of wrists. While the black dial has a playful design, this does not impact its clarity and legibility. The shorter indices, the singular, large luminescent numerals at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock, and the luminescent centre hands promise optimal readability; even in low-light conditions. Domed on both sides and with an anti-reflective coating inside, sapphire crystal glass protects the dial. Furthermore, the dial features anti-shock labelling at 6 o’clock and the retro Oris logo with the word “waterproof” underneath it. This detail has been revived for the first time in the brand’s contemporary history; how cool!
Thanks to the screw-in security crown, at the 3 o’clock position, this watch is water-resistant up to 100 metres. A rating which is suitable for various water-based activities, it ensures suitability for daily wear. Within the case lies the watch’s Oris 733 calibre automatic movement. Beating at a frequency of 28’800 A/H (4 HZ) and with 26 jewels, it provides the watch with a 38-hour power reserve. The movement also comes with a variety of functions, including; centre hands for hours, minutes and seconds, a fine timing device and a stop-second. On the screwed case back, the wearer can view special engravings which denote the 60th anniversary of the design. Small but meaningful, these details allow for one to feel more connected to this iconic watch.
A multi-piece stainless steel bracelet concludes the design of this 60th anniversary watch. Fastening with a folding clasp, it ensures great security and comfort on the wrist. If the stainless steel bracelet isn’t quite to your taste, Oris has also supplied this watch with an additional black leather strap. It’s important to note that leather isn’t completely waterproof, so if you want to go diving, make sure to switch it for the stainless steel bracelet.
Joyfully retro and yet somewhat contemporary, this watch is the perfect way to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Oris Divers Sixty-Five. If it has caught your eye, click here to purchase one on our website.
