The History Behind the Watch

Longines Announce Pilot Majetek Launch

This brand-new model is a return to a classic watch that was designed for aviation. With a history of over 190 years, Longines has an incomparable and very well-respected heritage. Over the years, the brand has always stayed true to its philosophy of combining fine mechanical watches and character aesthetics with contemporary expertise. The brand ensures every timepiece it creates is able to measure time with undisputed precision and reliability.

The design of Pilot Majetek is inspired by an original timepiece that was first registered by Longines on the 1st of April 1935 at the International Industrial Property Office in Bern, Switzerland. At its creation, the watch was intended for use by aviators. However, its elegant and easy-to-read design attracted a much wider audience. The popularity of this original timepiece has inspired Longines to return to one of its most iconic designs. Despite being heavily inspired by an original timepiece, the technical and ergonomic features of the new models have been totally redesigned to appeal to a 21st-century watch wearer.

The New Timepieces

The Dial and Movement

In the classic pilot’s watch style, this new timepiece is designed with a matte black dial. The dial is adorned with white Arabic numerals and features that have been coated with Old Radium Superluminova. An oversized small seconds sub-dial is featured in the 6 o’clock position. It serves as a reminder of the original purpose of this design. An internal fluorescent module triangle marker floats above the dial, creating a truly fascinating effect. The dial and its features are protected by sapphire crystal to ensure a durable finish.

The watch is powered by a Longines L893.6 calibre movement. This movement is equipped with a magnetically resistant silicone balance spring and provides up to 72 hours of power reserve. Longines prides itself on the precision and reliability of all of its timepieces. The movement used in this timepiece has been chronometer-certified by the COSC.

The Case and Finishing Touches

The dial of this watch is framed by an external fluted rotating bezel system that evokes the aesthetic of vintage Longines timepieces. The case is crafted from stainless steel and measures 43mm in diameter. A small plaque marked with ‘1935’ is set at the 9 ‘clock position on the case, emphasising the horological heritage behind this model.

The watch is available in three different choices of the strap, or in a luxurious box set. The timepiece can be paired with a brown leather strap (L28384530), a dark green leather strap (L28384532), or a khaki green NATO-style strap that is crafted from recycled materials (L28384538). The box set (L28384539) presents the watch on a brown leather strap alongside a green NATO-style strap and a spring bar tool.
