The Seiko Prospex “Rock Face” European Limited Edition ‘Alpinist’ SPB355J1

This exciting new Seiko timepiece is part of the brand’s iconic Prospex collection. The name ‘Prospex’ combines the words ‘professional’ and ‘specifications’ to emphasise the core qualities of the watches within this family. Every Prospex timepiece is designed with practicality, reliability and durability at the forefront. They each meet the high standards that are required in the extreme conditions that their wearers may well face. The watch is limited to just 3000 pieces and is only available in Europe, making it one of the most desirable launches of the year.

The Dial and Movement

The design of this new limited edition timepiece is inspired by the rugged harshness of the mountain’s rock face. Seiko has heavily incorporated this inspiration into every element of the watch, most prominently on the dial. The dial is designed in a grey shade and exhibits a unique texture that will have a different appearance from every angle. This detail has been specifically created to evoke images of incredible mountain faces all over the world. The blue hands and hour markers on the dial emphasise the Alpine theme of this stunning timepiece. Additionally, a date aperture is positioned at 3 o’clock. The details of the dial are coated with Lumibrite to ensure that they are easily visible in the dark.

Sapphire crystal is used to protect the dial and provide this model will an even higher level of durability. A magnifying feature is placed over the date display to enhance readability. This watch is powered by Seiko’s in-house Automatic 6R movement. This movement provides the watch with up to 70 hours of power reserve whilst placing focus on the long and successful heritage of the brand.

The Case and Finishing Touches

This new model takes the shape of Seiko’s well-loved Alpinist timepieces. These watches were first launched in 1959 and were created especially for the Japanese ‘Yama-otoko’ mountain men. These original watches had to be reliable in order to cope with the treacherous terrain that the men would encounter. These values have been passed down through generations of Alpinist watches and are very present in modern designs. The case is crafted from stainless steel and measures 39.5mm in diameter. This will ensure that the watch is comfortable to wear whilst allowing the dial to be large enough to be easily legible.

The watch is provided with two distinctly different straps. The first is a grey fabric strap that matches the grey tones of the dial. The second is a classic blue leather strap that will perfectly complement the blue details that are included throughout the design of this timepiece. Furthermore, this watch is water resistant up to 200 metres, meaning that it can be worn for a variety of water-based activities.

Durability and reliability are at the forefront of every element of the Prospex “Rock Face” European Limited Edition ‘Alpinist’ watch. This makes it the perfect companion for thrill seekers, adventurers and the modern and fashion-conscious man alike.
