The S.A.R. Rescue-Timer Turns 20

The Mühle-Glashütte icon is about to celebrate an anniversary in February. The S.A.R. Rescue-Timer turns 20 years old in just a few short days. This big milestone for the brand is met with expected excitement from the brand’s fans. Mühle-Glashütte has announced they will be giving the iconic watch a “facelift” after it’s remained unchanged for almost two decades. The brand has also mentioned we should be expecting several new releases during the S.A.R.’s anniversary year.

In 1865, after several shipwrecks on the North Sea, the German Maritime Search and Rescue Society (DGzRS) was born. The service has since helped rescue more than 85000 people. Working tirelessly, the organisation is a non-profit and is funded entirely by donations. In March of 2001, Mühle-Glashütte contacted DGzRS and offered to create a bespoke timepiece that would suit the needs of the rescue teams. The designers focused on creating a timepiece that is extremely robust and readable. The watch was then introduced in February of 2002 and has since become an essential tool for the DGzRS teams.

As the S.A.R. Rescue-Timer is still a tool used by the organisation, the watch brand has decided to make only a few minor changes to its design. The updated timepiece will have a black date disk with white numbers, instead of a white one. The crown of the watch will now be made of pearl-blasted stainless steel.

Understanding the importance of the timepiece to the rescuers, the brand is maintaining the high level of durability of the watch. The watch’s case is still made of matt stainless steel and measures 42 mm in diameter. A rubber bezel adds gives extra shock protection to the movement. The large Super-LumiNova hands and indices make the watch incredibly easy and quick to read in any condition. In addition to the impressive case durability, the watch has a remarkable water-resistance of up to 1000 meters or 100 bars. A black rubber strap completes the overall design of the watch. The strap guarantees both comfort and resilience.
