Raymond Weil’s Jimi Hendrix Limited Edition Watch

Raymond Weil has announced the newest addition to its Music Icons series. Raymond Weil’s Jimi Hendrix limited edition watch takes its rightful place amongst limited timepieces paying homage to stars such as David Bowie, The Beatles and Bob Marley. A must have for Hendrix fans the model is inspired by the musician’s Woodstock performance in 1969. The subtle musical references hidden throughout the watch’s design create a unique and fun experience and add a whole new layer to the  watch’s look.

Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix is said to be one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. His legacy has inspired countless musicians across all genres like Prince and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. “Arguably the best instrumentalist in the history of rock music”, according to a biography written by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Hendrix pioneered and expanded the use of the electric guitar like no one before him. Although his mainstream career only spanned 4 years, what Jimi Hendrix did for music has influenced the creation and development of numerous genres and styles. During his lifetime he not only transformed the music industry but challenged the world’s perception of what it meant to be a black musician and rocker in the 60s.

A Timepiece Inspired By A Legend

Raymond Weil’s Jimi Hendrix Limited Edition Watch

Raymond Weil’s Jimi Hendrix limited edition watch was not only inspired by the guitarist but also by his iconic white Fender Stratocaster guitar. Many elements throughout the timepiece’s design are a nod to the instrument and its symbolic importance. The base model for the limited edition is the brand’s flagship Freelancer chronograph watch. Though the design of the watch seems subtle and understated at first glance, the expertly included musical details shine through.

The case is made of grey PVD coated stainless steel and measures at 42 mm in diameter. It’s dial is in graphite grey. As mentioned above a number of design elements were inspired by Hendrix’s guitar. The 10 dotted indices are made to resemble the frets on the guitar neck. The 6 circular markings around the outer edge of the dial symbolise the strings of an electric guitar. The inner section of the dial features an embossed pattern inspired by the musician’s guitar strap from his Woodstock performance. Luminescent hands contrast the grey dial. The blue detailing on the second’s hand and two of the subdial hands is influenced by the performer’s outfit during the festival. The counterweight on the second’s hand is shaped as a guitar head, turned backwards, the way Hendrix used to play. “Music is my Religion” alongside the rocker’s name are printed onto the tachymeter scale. An exhibition case back features the automatic movement. Jimi Hendrix’s silhouette features on the sapphire crystal protecting the case back. Another anti-reflective sapphire crystal encases the dial. A dark brown leather strap with beige top-stitching completes the design of the piece and adds to the retro tone of the design.

The RW5200 movement on the model has a 48-hour power reserve. Functions on the model include a chronograph with 3 subdials. It also has a day and a date aperture at the 3 o’clock position. The watch is water-resistant up to 10 bars or 100 metres.
