St. George’s Day – English Watch Brands!

English Watch Brands

Today, April 23rd, is St. Georges Day, celebrated in England, in memory of the patron saint, and to market he anniversary of his death. St. George, according to legend, was a soldier in the Roman army, who managed to slay a dragon in order to save a princess. The day gives us chance to celebrate our country’s heritage and honor the patron saint of England, and so in this post we are going to take a quick look at some of the English watch brands and watches that can be found on the website that you may or may not know about!

Elliot Brown

Founded by Ian Elliot and Alex Brown, the Elliot Brown company is one of the most popular English watch brands we stock, producing watches that are meant to last, and grown and evolve with you and your adventures.

Every single Elliot Brown timepiece is the result of thousands of hours spent focused on the smallest details; refining, improving, inventing, and testing, over and over again. These award-winning watches can easily withstand harsh elements and are relied upon for ocean crossings, mountain rescues, and just about any kind of extreme or arduous adventure.

Each watch must pass a rigorous testing regime including immersion in water to at least 200m or 300m to ensure complete reliability and functionality. It’s typical of the lengths this British brand goes to, in making sure each one is ready for duty in the office or on your next adventure.

The model shown above is the 202-004-B05 from the Canford collection.

Maals are one of the newest brands that we stock, with 2 models currently available from the family owned company. Started by two brothers in the UK, not too far from our own store in the midlands.

The brand was started after 20 years of watch collecting experience opened the brothers eyes to the world of watches even further, and inspired them to look in to it further, and so, eventually started up a company of their own. They set out with the idea of creating an eye catching, high quality watch, at an affordable price point. Maals watches are designed in the UK, and are influenced by a love of all things design, Italian cars and 70’s classic watches.

The ‘Jump Over The Moon’ is available in black, or brown and silver, and takes it’s inspiration from outer space and features OKSE exclusive case-back artwork.

Weird Ape are a one of a kind watch brand, producing new and unique products that have really been a hit so far! It is great to see a new English brand that are willing to reinvent the way we conceive things, and go against the grain. As a brand Weird Ape shake up the old and boring and bring in the fresh and unusual

Rotary

Rotary watches were originally established at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, by Moise Dreyfuss back in 1895. By the 1920s members of the Dreyfuss family, Georges and Sylvain, had began importing Rotary watches to Britain, which was to become the company’s most successful market.

So, Rotary may not officially be a British or English brand, however, we have decided to include them on this list due to the WWI Centenary piece, where a portion of the proceeds are donated to support the Royal British Legion. With support and funding going towards supporting the great work that the charity does, which includes: financial, social, and emotional support to the members and veterans of the British Armed Forces, along with their families and dependents too.
