Women’s Fashion Styles: Grunge Watches

grunge watches

The first question most people ask when I mention grunge fashion is: what is grunge? The grunge style hasn’t been around for long, it became a recognised look in the 90’s, formally created by generation X. The creation of this look is interlinked with its former decade, the 80’s. Taking a closer look at the 80’s reveals shoulder pads, bold block colour and a general ‘flash for cash’ kind of decade.

In contrast to this, the grunge fashion disregards new labels and big designer brands for a more thrift style, focusing more on older label t-shirts, floral print and smaller brands which have been put together for a more edgy look. It is rather a ‘non-fashion’ look than fashion orientated. The beginning of this look originated to the cold Seattle and Aberdeen, where there is more of a need for layers. A typical grunge look might include worn doc martins, ripped jeans and tights with an oversized t-shirt and thrifted leather jacket.

As with our previous style recommendations, if you are interested in the grunge look or have a grunge wardrobe which needs an accessory to fit the style then we have some grunge watches recommendations for you.

If your go to grunge look has a darker colour pallet with a touch of florals then this Lipsy black floral watch might be the perfect fit.

The strap of this watch is a black leather with a gold case and black floral dial. Black Doc Martin’s and a black leather jacket would match great with this watch with ripped boyfriend jeans and a floral top to finish the look.

If your grunge style included graphic prints with an edgy fashionista outlet then Barbour’s Mitford Tartan Fabric watch might be well suited to you look.

Tartan is a popular go to in the grunge style. I know if I came across tartan trousers in a thrift store, I would take them straight to the till. This watches main feature is the tartan fabric strap which would compliment a variety of different looks from black leather to oversized denim jackets.

The grunge look is orientated around an edgy style and this Breil petit stainless steel watch is the epiphany of edgy with this double bracelet style.

The strap on this timepiece is the centrepiece of this watch as it shows off an edgy bangle look. The mesh style to the bracelet also gives off retro vibes, perfect for the grunge look, a style that we are now seeing increasingly more in the watch market. The markers on this watch are crystal set if you like to add a subtle hint of sparkle.
