destinations

The holiday season is fast approaching with the arrival of summer. Whilst some of us already have holidays booked, there might still be some of us looking for a destination to book, so we thought we would point you in the right direction for 2018.

Whilst we will be looking at destinations for 2018, we will also find a timepiece that is perfect for the occasion.

Saint Helena

In October 2017, St Helena’s new airport started accepting public flights, so this island went from one of the worlds most remote, to an accessible get away. This now means that you can get to St Helena in a quarter of the time. You can find this island around 2000km of the west of Africa and it is part of the British Overseas Territory. If an active holiday of sight seeing and activities sounds like your kind of trip then there is plenty to do on this small island. There are over 20 dive spots which includes eight shipwrecks. These wrecks are home to fish such as the parrotfish, flounder, St Helena wrasse and the marmalade razorfish. If you want to go whale watching then go between the months June and December as humpback whales cruise offshore during this period. One of the highlights of visiting this island is the whale sharks which turn up after December and stay until march.

As this is a holiday which has opportunities to watch the sea wildlife with diving as another activity we have chosen Seiko’s Prospex PADI Recreation Blue Dial Blue Resin Strap.

This watch is well suited if you want to partake in diving and other water sports as it is 200m water resistant. The strap is made from a durable silicone which means it will look stylish but also fit comfortably.

Vienna, Austria

vienna

Out of all the European countries, Austria appears to be the most underated. Vienna is the home of opera and classical music, it also boasts some of the worlds greatest museums. It is a very accessible city to get around, the food is divine (and so is the wine) and it is also an incredibly picturesque city. The reason why Vienna is one of the top places to visit this year is not only for its beauty and rich food, but the museums are  celebrating the centenaries of the deaths of three of its greatest artists; Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Koloman Moser. With many other events planned for the year 2018 in Vienna there has never been a better time to go and witness the history of this city.

If you decide that Vienna is the right destination for you, then a watch which represents class and sophistication is highly appropriate. This is why we have selected Citizen’s Women’s Brown Leather Strap Strap Eco-Drive.

Citizen viennaThis watch is classic in its design which is well suited to the classical and opera music background. This watch is also convenient for regular tourists as it never runs out of battery. Citizen’s watches are powered by eco-drive technology which means that it gains power from both indoor and outdoor light sources.

Valletta, Malta

Malta

Valletta in Malta was built by the Knights of St John, following the Great Siege of 1565. Valletta is a 16th century citadel city and one of the European capitals of culture 2018 which is how it made its way onto our holiday destinations of 2018. In celebration, this year there will be several artistic events taking place such as dancing, opera, theatre, music, fireworks and of course lots of food not only in Valletta but across the whole of Malta. If you look for a destination which is not too large to explore in one trip then Valletta is the holiday trip for you as the city is actually quite small. Historic building and homes have been transformed into hotels and boutiques such as The Coleridge, Ursulino, SU29 and The Saint John.

To match the classic and sophisticated nature of this destination we have chosen a watch which replicated the look of the city by Tommy Hilfiger.

This watch is sophisticated in style with the Carly white leather strap, perfect for sightseeing in the day and candle lit dinners at night. Although this watch emulates the sophisticated and historic feel of the city, Valletta, it is not waterproof so if you fancy a swim be sure to put this model to the side.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

amsterdam

There is no city that is quite like Amsterdam and back in the 17th century, this city was the centre of world trade. With the gold and money that was pumped into the city, it meant that extravagant buildings were built as well as Amsterdam’s iconic canals. The reason this city makes the cut in our recommendations is because back in spring this year, Eurostar introduced a new direct journey from London to Amsterdam. This means that the journey on the train is reduced to just 4 hours, as the trip excludes the normal stop in Brussels, perfect for those who want to avoid flying.

For a city which has strong heritage and an iconic look we have chosen Movado Women’s Bold Carnation Soft Rose And Gold Leather as this brand also has a unique look and an iconic history.

Movado have won several awards for their watch making and their timepieces have been featured in museums worldwide, Amsterdam are also well known for their museums. This watch is part of a selection of luxury watches which we stock here at First Class Watches so if you like a watch with a strong heritage and a luxury design then this would be a great accessory for your travels to the Netherlands.

Gold Cost, Australia

Australia holiday

The Gold Coast in Australia is one of the most popular sports holiday destinations. This coast has an array of different activities such as a thriving night life, beach culture, seafood restaurants and wildlife attractions. If you want to go for a life experience like no other then a few miles away from Queensland, there is also the opportunity to feed wild dolphins on Moreton Island. If you want to delve further into the coasts of Australia then what better than the great barrier reef, a habitat which is iconic to the country.

With the different possibilities of activities we decided that a watch which is durable and water resistant would be the best combination for a trip like this which is why we have chosen Victorinox Swiss Army Womans I.N.O.X V Navy Paracord.

If durable is a quality you look for when buying a timepiece then look no further. Victorinox have produced a model to remember with a strap which is made from a paracord. This timepiece is 200m water resistant and can withstand drastic temperature changes meaning it is great for diving and marine activity.
