Casio G-shock have announced an new collab with BURTON Snowboards just in time for the BURTON US open of snow. This is in fact the third collab that Casio have done with BURTON snowboards to date and each one so far has been awesome and this looks to be just as good! The watch has a very camouflage styled design which has been inspired by classical utilitarian looks as well as young subculture duck camo also making an appearance on the watch. The radical timepiece also has “NO BAD TRIPS” engraved on the back of the watch case which as a snowboarder myself can relate too all to well. It was originally announced in February but we didn’t want to cover it until it was actually released and available to buy which is now is however the model is absolutely flying off the shelves or selected retailers and online stores with many only having one or two models left in stock.

Who are BURTON?

So for those who aren’t cold weather enthusiasts you may not have heard of BURTON before as they tend to lean more nowadays to their snowsport fans whereas I remember a few years ago they use to have a store on the high streets selling suits, casual wear, swimwear and even accessories such as sunglasses, watches and bracelets. Nowadays they are mostly online however they still have a huge presence at snow sport events worldwide. As described on their website;

Burton is one of the UK’s leading men’s clothing & fashion retailers, with a range of men’s clothing designed to make you look & feel good.”

Twin Sensor Technology

G-shock is widely known for its twin sensor technology within its Mudmaster watches, for those who don’t follow Casio much I’m referring to the digital compass and thermometer which is all housed within the mud and debris resistant case of the watch which has been specially designed and built to withstand the tests of mother nature at its roughest. It’s this level of high standard build quality, use of materials and feature packed tech that makes these timepieces a perfect companion for the tough, snowy conditions on the slopes.

The new Mudmaster is inspired by a utilitarian look and opts for a ‘duck’ camo strap. The tagline ‘No Bad Trips’ is engraved on the case back as well as the BURTON logo and a mountain peak.

Lovers of outdoor timepieces will be drooling at the spec and tech list for this watch as it boasts a huge list of incredible features that could make even Ray Mears and Bear Grylls turn green with envy.

Techs & Specifications

Right now that we’ve talked about the aesthetics which are quote honestly incredible, I’d love this watch!

Let’s take a look at the deep dive details of this awesome timepiece! Firstly it has Casio G-shocks’ infamous shock resistance technology so it is hard wearing and can withstand falls and knocks from day to day use without a loss of time or hand alignment issues. As mentioned earlier it is also mud resistant and comes with a water resistance rating of 200 metres, which is perfect for snow sports and water sporting activities. To ensure this water, dust and mud resistance Casio have designed a interesting cylinder guard structure with gaskets for shafts and cylinders which are around the watches buttons which stop all mud, dust and water from entering the watch at any time (I told you we were going to dive on into the specs).

Digital Compass

Other features of the watch include a digital compass for excursions of a longer duration or perhaps for times when you need to get your bearings again, this can measure and display the direction as one of 16 points, it has a maximum measuring range of 359 degrees and can measure to as low as a single degree when needed. Now hows that for accurate precision. It can give you a 20 second continuous measurement of direction and even has a hand indication for North making it easy to read no matter what the lighting or weather.

Casio have pulled out all the stops with this collab also including a Bidirectional calibration which help you when calibrating compass readings, magnetic declination correction to stop your compass readings from misalignment which is essential when outdoors, especially when you need a piece of equipment you can 100% rely on. The collab timepiece also includes bearing memory, a  thermometer which has a display range of -10 to 60 c which is approximately 14 to 140 Fahrenheit.

This can be measured to an incredible .1 of a degree or .2 Fahrenheit and can be easily read thanks to the watches LED back light which is actually has three parts to it. Firstly an Auto LED super Illuminator Back light, secondly there is a selectable illumination duration and last of all it also features Afterglow. The watches hands and markers are also coated with Casio’s Neo-brite Luminous paint for easy legibility in poor or low lightning conditions.

World Time

The watch also has a very advanced world time feature which allows you to see the current time in 31 time zones or 48 different cities from around the globe + UTC) this is also available with daylight saving on or off depending on the time of year. You can also set up to five daily alarms for reminders that you need throughout the day, this is perfect for everything from a wake up call in the morning to reminder alarms that you are suppose to be at a certain slope or bar to meet your friends or even just for reminders to take medication when travelling abroad.

Casio G-shock x BURTON Snowboards collaboration GG1000BTN-1AThe Casio Mudmaster also features an hourly time signal, a 1/100 Second Stopwatch with a measuring capacity: 23:59’59.99″. You can even chose from one of three measuring modes which are; Elapsed time, split time, 1st-2nd place times. It has a countdown timer with a unit measurement of one second, and a countdown range of sixty minutes maximum. You can also set the start time setting range from anything between one and sixty minutes in one minute increments.

It comes with a fully automatic calendar which has been pre-programmed until the year 2099 and the time can be read in either twelve or twenty four hour formats depending on your personal preference (this can be changed at any point), it has a button operation tone which can be turned on or off again depending on your personal preference, there’s a low battery alert too so you know when it is going to need replacing rather than it just cutting off in the middle of a slope.

The watch keeps an accuracy of  ± 15 seconds per month which is pretty good considering the amount of other features the watch is also packed with and it is powered by two SR927W batteries with an approximate life span of two years. The module is a 5475 with a case width of 56.2mm and a case thickness of 17.1mm which is fairly well sized for the amount of tech inside and its not too heavy either weighing in at 92g.

Conclusion

Well there you have it, I know it got a bit tech heavy towards the end there but hopefully the images of the watch itself helped you visualise the tech on the watch better and how easy it is to read and set. If you’re looking for a great timepiece which can keep up with your fast paced adrenaline lifestyle then this is the perfect watch for you. It’s rugged, hard wearing and filled to the brim with useful and exciting features that could keep even the geekiest of you adventurers busy for weeks!
