AT THE HEART OF EVERY AVIATOR

It was back in 1903 on a cold and brisk December the 17th that Wilbur Wright and Orville invented their impossible idea, it soon became the the invention that defied convention and gravity. That day went down in history as the day that the dynamic duo developed their incredible flying machine and took its first ever human flight which went on to change the way we look at the skies above.

Since this huge landmark aviation has come along dramatically with some huge achievements over the years. The early aviators used watches in their every day travel in order to track their distances, altitude, and speed. Then as aeroplanes became more sophisticated, the wristwatch became a vital piece of kit for military pilots and as well as a pretty necessary accessory among gentleman too. Aviator watches has paid homage to the spirit of aviation in each and ever watch that they manufacture. The design team at Aviator draw inspiration from the form and functions of over five generations of aeronautics and always strives to remind its customers that you should never yield in your affairs and should always push to do the unthinkable just like Wilbur and Orville. After all, if you truly believe in something, may you look to the sky and strive for what you love—relentlessly.

Look at this incredible Aviator Douglas Day-Date watch, now this is a timepiece that knows how to mix streamlined elegance with modern innovation. The watch is a beautiful tribute to the Douglas DC-3 passenger aircraft, the watch reflects the art-deco styling of the Dc-3 and subtle pocket watch hints are evident in both the watches hands and its carefully manufactured case. The watches dial also features the axe horizontally drawn across the centre of the dial, this is of course a direct reference to the horizon cockpit instrument. Aviator has decided to put this on the dial as a direct reminder of the first long distance flights that the DC-3 operated.

When you take a closer look at the timepiece you will see that there is an elegant day display window which has been curved to the shape of the case which provides the wearer with the full day of the week.  You may notice as well there is a date display window at the six o’clock position which is emphasises with a white stroke line around the outside. The curved lugs have been designed to give the watches polished metal fixings a beautiful shine and shadow in a variety of different lights and original leather strap is coloured blue to match the dial of the watch. This watch is also available in a few other colour variations so if this blue is not for you but you love the style of the watch then you can simply choose a different variant from the colour options available.

The watch is powered by an automatic movement which assured that the watch will serve you reliably just as the Douglas DC-3 has been for almost 80 years so far.

The Douglas DC-3 revolutionised air transport in the 1930s and 1940s and quickly became somewhat of a legend in the aviation world, it is now known universally as the greatest aeroplane of its time which can be partly claimed due to the DC-3’s two powerful propeller engines which achieved incredible feats. The DC-3 reduced coast to coast flight times from one side of the United States to the other 7 hours from 25 to only 18. As well as this it also allowed airlines to make a giant leap toward profitability and forever changed the travel industry.

The DC-3 hasn’t flown some of the world biggest stars and is featured in many films for example James Bond flew one in the “Quantum of Solace“, talking of James bond we did a James Bond themed Infographic some time ago which proved incredibly popular, if you would like to see if click here.
