REC, Recyclin’ Horsepower

Rec are petrol heads and watch fanatics to the bone, their ambition with REC watches is to transform those passions into truly unique timepieces. Instead of some obscure year of establishment every single REC timepiece incorporates salvaged, recycled iconic parts. A concept which they have named “Recover, Recycle, Reclaim” – or REC for short. The brand has but their hearts, souls and more work than we could ever care to think about into their collections. They always strive to hit a perfect blend of distinctive designs, subtle references, handmade components and fantastic story telling!

The 901 Collection

Much like the name suggests these watches are made from salvaged parts from the Porsche 911’s of the air cooled era. The 901 collection is a tribute to one of the most legendary of all sports cars!

Model 901-01

Visually unique lower dial made from a salvaged classic Porsche 911. The watch features a skeleton, chrome and red printed hands. It has a superluminova coating on the hands and indices. The watch also has a 4-piece gungrey PVD and stainless steel case surrounding the watches movement, dial and hands keeping them safe from the dangers of the world. The movement within the watch is a Miyota cal. 9100 automatic which has a host of functions including: date display, date display, month display, power reserve +40hours. The movement contains 26 jewels / 28800 VPH. To further protect the dial the watch has a sapphire crystal glass reducing the risk of potential scratches. Finally the watches strap is made from a black claf leather hand has a stunning finish known as a Alcantara pattern finish.

Model 901-02

Visually unique lower dial made from a salvaged classic Porsche 911. This watch also features a skeleton dial with chrome hands however these are white instead of the red of the previous model. The watch also has a different design and shows a few other subtle differences if you know where to look. The watches strap features a “worn look” tanned leather strip with white thick stitching. The watches movement is the same Miyota cal. 9100 automatic with exactly the same functions.

Model 901-03

Visually unique lower dial made from a salvaged classic Porsche 911. This particular watch features an bold orange which grabs peoples attention and draws them in to the intricate parts of the watch. The watches unique bracelet is a “crannied” black calf leather strap which is one that I have only seen with this watch brand making it very unique. Handy if you are looking for a one of a kind watch. The watches dial is gungrey so as to emphasise the orange highlights even more.

The P51 Collection

This collection is salvaged from 1960’s  salvaged mustangs, the P51 collection is a tribute to the timeless and iconic car. The mustang has definitely earnt its place as the very symbol of American muscle cars!

Model P51-01

Visually unique lower dial made from a salvaged classic Ford Mustang. This watch has a different shape to most watches in that the case is more of a square instead of the traditional circular case which is are so familiar with. Another brand that has this shaped dial is Briston which you can view here. This watches movement is a Miyota Cal. 9130 Automatic as are the other watches within this collection. It features a 316L stainless steel case (316L being the grade of stainless steel used), sapphire crystal glass protect the dial and hands of the watch whilst a mineral glass protects the case back, the dial which is of course made from the Ford Mustand with the VIN number printed on the dial so you can search it using their website.

Model P51-02

Visually unique lower dial made from a salvaged classic Ford Mustang. This watch is completely identical in techincal specifications however the colour combination is a lot lighter with this model to its P51-01 brother. This model boasts a light brown genuine leather strap rather than deep black. It hasnt got an ION plated case which helps to lighten the face and illuminate the dial. The case back of the watch features a small rectangular window allowing the wearer to see into the automatic movement of the watch. It also contains the limited edition number out of a total of 250.

Model P51-03

Visually unique lower dial made from a salvaged classic Ford Mustang. This model features a 4N gold bezel and crown giving the watch a well polished look. The anthracite inner dials are offset as a darker black than that of the metal from the Ford Mustang and although you may think this would be harder to read it actually helps to emphasise the numbers and markers on both of the sub dials. Like the other models it features a professional grade genuine black calf leather strap with a feel reminiscent of a Ford Mustangs interior.

Story Card

Every timepiece from the 901 & P51 collections come with a scannable story card in the box. This story card has a built-in NFC-Chip and QR code which when activated link directly to a video that tells the story of the specific salvaged vehicle that became your watch. It doesn’t get more personal than that.It allows you to discover the story of the car which has been REC’d.

The Mini Collection

Made from salvaged Classic Austin and Morris Minis, the mini collection celebrates an iconic automobile. This car was once the car of the century, a rally champion and arguably the very embodiment of British engineering.

Mark I M1

Visually Unique top dial made from a salvaged classic mini. The watch features a TMI VK64 Mecha-Quartz movement powering this watch and its host of features. It has a three hand main dial, date display, 24 hour indicator and chronograph which can time to an impressive 60 minutes. Perfect for timing a quick lap or leisure drive. The case is made from 316L stainless steel and polished to give it that perfect shine. The dial of course is handcrafted from a recycled Austin Mini. It has superluminous chrome hands for visibility in adverse conditions and is finished off with a brown leather pattern strap which secretes sophistication.

Mark I M2

Visually Unique top dial made from a salvaged classic mini. A slightly more reserved approach has been taken when this watch was designed as its use of colour is all but vanished. This watch focuses around the grey monotone colour palette with a slight variation of shade of different parts and metal finishes. It features the same TMI VK64 Mecha-Quartz movement, chronograph, pushes and hands they are just slightly different in appearance. I think the watch is actually quite refined and like that this watch can hold its own even in just a handful of shades of the same colour. It means the watch is more than just a few well thought out colours but instead is a carefully engineered timepiece manufactured to draw you in whilst emitting style.

Mark I M3

Visually Unique top dial made from a salvaged classic mini. At a first glance it is obvious what they have changed on this model. Gone is the light grey polished case and in its place a deep black polished to give it an endless depth appearance.  The strap has also been changed to a black croco pattern genuine leather strap. These two changes are the only variations of this model, all other aspects of the model are the same

Cooper C1

Visually unique caseback made from a salvaged classic mini. This lightweight model is the first in the Cooper collection. The watches top glass is made from sapphire crystal with an AR-coating to help you see during high brightness environments. It has some beautiful pointer hands that are made from chrome. The watches is water resistant to 50 meters and it contains a TMI VD78 Quartz movement and is therefore battery powered. The dial is handcrafted from a classic recycled Austin Mini. Its got a very simplistic second hand sub dial and similarly simplistic grey textured calf skin leather strap.

Cooper C2

Visually unique caseback made from a salvaged classic mini. The first thing which strikes me when looking at this watch is the British racing green hands against that white dial. They work perfectly. The textured brown genuine leather strap also partners perfectly with the colours and textured dial. This is probably my favourite of all the watches REC do just because of how well it works together to make the perfect timepiece for the stylish gent in the 21st century.

Cooper C3

Following the C2 and C1 is no small feat the two previous models work so well its hard to see where they could improve on those models. Instead of looking for improvements the REC brand has worked to adjust small things about the watch so that its style that is emitted is more of high end luxury timepiece which you might expect to see at a dinner reservation or private party. This watches rose gold plates case and crown is breathtaking. Complimented by the black textured dial it radiated sophistication and style. Its cooper checker stripes with the black textured calf-skin leather strap make me want to own this watch! It’s a definite must have addition to any ones watch collection.

The Origin of your watch

Accompanying the watch, you will find an origin brochure booklet which contains an image of the car’s original logbook and anecdotes from previous owners of the car itself! Doesn’t get much better than that if you ask me! What a collectors item these watches are!
