A Rolex on Antiques Roadshow

Whilst in Tucson, Antiques Roadshow PBS came across a very rare GMT Master Model Rolex from the 1960’s. Viewers including ourselves learned it’s important to keep the box…and your receipt! Peter Planes appraises a rare GMT Master Model Rolex in the latest episode on PBS which you can watch here.  The unsuspecting gentleman paid $120.35 (£97) (around $894/£727, in today’s money) for the watch back in the 60’s in Germany as his sergeant recommended them them.

During his appearance on the show he estimated the watch to be  worth around $1,500 (£1,219) and had a very detailed story explaining that the watch cost him a lot of money in those times, It was over a months salary for him at the time. They talked through all the items that came with the watch including the very detailed Rolex bracelet and right near the end told him that the watch is now worth around $65,000 to $75,000 (£52,800-£60,900).

We think this was definitely worth the investment! I can imagine seeing this at auction very soon so if you like it keep your eyes peeled!
