A Brand Reborn

Duckworth Prestex may sound like a new name, but it goes back a very long way in the history of watchmaking. Almost 100 years, in fact. For the founder of Duckworth Prestex and the man who originally brought TAG Heuer to the UK in the 1980s, Neil Duckworth, this is a very personal story. Prestons, Neil’s family firm founded in 1869 in Bolton, initially specialised in pocket watches under the Prestex name. These timepieces gained worldwide acclaim and success throughout the 1920s. In the following decades, Prestex expanded its offerings to include a range of timepieces, including chronographs, pocket watches, and elegant dress watches. In 1948, Gordon Duckworth, Neil's father, took over the business and introduced Swiss watch brands like Omega, Rolex, and Heuer alongside the home-grown Prestex range. However, the original Prestex line was eventually phased out. In 1982, Neil's brother Andrew assumed leadership of the company, ensuring its continued prosperity. Meanwhile, Neil pursued a career in the watch industry, working with renowned global brands. However, his lifelong desire was to revive the lost family watch brand from the 1960s, and now that dream is becoming a reality.
