The 1970 white gold Rolex<\/a> Cosmograph Daytona reference 6265 is one of the worlds rarest Rolex watches and is actually believed to be a one off timepiece. The reason for it seemingly being a one off piece is the fact that manually-wound Rolex Daytonas were only available in stainless steel or yellow gold, before this white gold model was discovered.<\/p>\n

And now the Cosmograph Daytona finds itself up for auction, the owner of the watch, John Goldberger, who acquired the watch 8 years ago, had previously stated that he would never sell this unique watch, but has now had a change of heart and listed it up for auction for the benefit of the Children Action charity who work with under privileged and vulnerable children all around the world.<\/p>\n

As a seasoned collector, Goldberger knew he had found a special watch when he came across this Rolex, he immediately noticed the weight of the watch as it was much heavier than expected, which instantly told him it was not a standard stainless steel watch. With the 18K hallmark engraved in the lugs at the back he believed that this was the special “Unicorn” Daytona he had heard of, and it is believed that it was originally created as a special order for a customer at a German retailer.<\/p>\n

Now with the watch being put up for auction by Goldberger due to his realisation that the watch meant more that he thought, and that it could be used to help those less fortunate, it is expected to fetch over \u00a32.2 Million when it goes on sale at the Geneva auction house Phillips<\/a> on May 12, 2018.
