In exciting news, Longines <\/a>has launched its all-new Year of the Dragon watch! Part of the brand’s Flagship Heritage collection, the watch is a special edition version of the classic moonphase model. While it allows us to glimpse Longines’ glorious past, it also allows us to celebrate the future. Through this watch, the dawning of the Year of the Dragon comes to life. Longines has invited renowned Chinese artist Zinan Lam to design the auspicious dragon which features on the case back. Although he takes a contemporary design approach, when it comes to the mythical creature, he remains traditional. The Dial and Movement <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Inspired by a historic watch from the 1950s, the domed dial exhibits an intense fum\u00e9 pattern that veers from red to black. Enhancing the opulent feel of the watch, the dial is adorned with gold-tone gilt hands and applied baton indices. For optimal readability, the hour and minute hands feature Swiss Super-LumiNova accents. An intricate moon phase, encircled by a hand-pointed date display, is at 6 o’clock. Not only does it add to the overall oriental-vintage aesthetic of the watch, but it also helps the wearer keep track of the current Lunar Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, with several layers of anti-reflective coating on both sides, protects the dial. While it provides great clarity it also showcases the great durability level that comes with the watch. This Flagship Heritage Year of the Dragon is fit with an exclusive L899.5 calibre. An automatic movement beating at 25’200 vibrations per hour, it has a monocrystalline silicon balance spring which offers superior magnetic resistance. As well as this, it boasts an impressive 72-hour power reserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Case and Finishing Touches<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To ensure the watch makes an impact on the wrist, a 38.5mm stainless steel case frames the dial. Lam’s auspicious dragon takes centre stage on the screw-down case back. With its head raised and soaring upwards, it is both a subtle nod to Chinese art and the Lunar New Year. While the dragon is the focal point, the case back is also adorned with the Flagship logo and the ‘One of 888’ limited edition mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Completing the design of the watch is a black alligator leather strap. Being one of the most stunning and durable materials, it perfectly concludes the luxurious appearance of the watch. It also guarantees comfort on the wrist. While this watch is suitable for daily wear, it is only splash-resistant. So if you are about to shower or partake in water-based activities, make sure to remove it. With a timepiece as beautiful as this, it would be a shame to ruin it with water damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
