Seiko has launched the new limited edition Seiko Prospex ‘Astrolabe’. With just pieces available worldwide, this watch is set to be a very collectable model for Seiko fans. Seiko’s 1965 Diver’s watch inspires the shape of this timepiece. This timepiece was the first ever Japanese 150-metre diving watch. Seiko often looks to its history for inspiration, flawlessly integrating its heritage into each and every timepiece. The design of the new limited edition Seiko Prospex ‘Astrolabe’ uses Seiko’s important heritage of diver’s watches with inspiration from underwater archaeology. The watch takes its name from and is inspired by, the ancient ‘Astrolabe’. This was an instrument that was used to show the positions of the sun and stars in the sky in order to measure latitude and time. This astrological theme gives the watch a playful and mystical edge, making it a great everyday accessory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dial and Movement<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This limited edition watch exhibits a bold blue dial with a striking underwater blue cross-line design. It is adorned with Lumibrite baton indices and hands to ensure that the dial is easily legible in the dark and underwater. In addition, a date aperture is featured at the 3 o’clock position. The dial and its features are protected by curved sapphire glass which provides a good level of durability. A Zaratsu-polished rotating bezel frames the dial, complementing its blue tone. This watch is powered by the in-house automatic calibre 8L35 movement. This movement provides up to 50 hours of power reserve and is specially designed for use in diver’s watches. To ensure the highest possible quality, this movement is manufactured and hand-finished in the Seiko Watch Corporation’s Shizukuishi Watch Studio. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Case and Finishing Touches<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The precise movement that powers this watch is housed within a stainless steel case. This case is treated with Seiko’s unique super-hard coating to ensure it is durable. This case measures 41.3mm in diameter and 13.1mm in depth to create a bold look on the wrist. This timepiece is secured on the wrist using a blue silicone strap that will be comfortable to wear for long periods of time. This material will also mean that the watch is well-suited to underwater wear. Finally, this timepiece is water resistant up to 20 bar, making it suitable for most diving and water-based activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
