Today, Seiko announce a new limited edition Save The Ocean watch. This new Seiko Prospex Glacier ‘Save The Ocean’ Turtle 100th anniversary edition is limited to 5000 pieces. It has been created to commemorate 100 years since Japan’s very first wristwatch, created by Seiko in 1913. This watch was named The ‘Laurel’ and has become a symbol of Japanese watchmaking. The design of this new timepiece is inspired by the ice of Antarctica. It expresses the accumulation of time and embodies the beauty of this fascinating landscape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seiko says that this latest model links the Antarctic history of Seiko diver’s watches and the time it takes for a glacier to form its beautiful structure. The watch does not just look good, it does good too. Seiko donates all of the proceeds of its Save The Ocean watches to the PADI Aware Foundation’s Marine Debris <\/a>programme. This is the world’s largest underwater clean-up initiative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dial and Movement <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The dial of this watch is designed in a striking silver colour. It exhibits a three-dimensional pattern with over 2000 surfaces. This intricate detailing is created to express the natural formations and pressure a glacier undergoes during its long cooling period. The dial is adorned with luminous baton indices and luminous silver hands. The second hand is blue, making it easy to follow on its journey around the dial. A date aperture is positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock on the dial. Sapphire glass protects the dial and its features, providing this timepiece with a good level of durability. The watch is powered by a calibre 6R35 automatic movement that provides up to 70 hours of power reserve. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Case and Finishing Touches<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The case of this watch is crafted from stainless steel that is treated with Seiko’s Super Hard Coating. It measures 41mm in diameter and 12.25mm in depth to ensure for comfortable wear. The case uses the iconic Seiko Turtle shape. It is named this as it resembles a turtle with its curved comfortable shell. This shape is very fitting for a diver’s watch as divers believe sea turtles to be a symbol of good fortune. This timepiece is provided with two straps that are each suited to different purposes and aesthetics. The first strap is a five-row stainless steel bracelet. The second is a grey fabric strap that is entirely made from recycled bottles. Additionally, the watch is water resistant up to 20 bar, making it a perfect companion for water-based activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
