Seiko have launched two new models as part of the brand\u2019s \u2018Save the Ocean\u2019 collection. The Seiko Prospex Antarctica Watches are both inspired by the landscape of Antarctica due to its status as the world\u2019s largest marine sanctuary. Seiko have used their iconic Prospex design for these new models as it flawlessly combines the need for a professional look with an impressive list of specifications. These watches are designed to be practical, reliable and durable so that they are able to withstand both daily living and demanding adventures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seiko\u2019s\n\u2018Save the Ocean\u2019 Collection<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, Seiko have aimed to raise awareness for the importance of marine conservation projects. The brand chose to reimagine some of their most high-profile watch models in order to raise awareness of this important issue. The collection was launched in collaboration with ocean conservationist Fabien Cousteau<\/a>. Cousteau is an ambassador for Seiko as well as being the founder of the Fabien Cousteau Ocean Learning Centre<\/a>. He follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, Jacques Cousteau, who was awarded the UN International Environment prize<\/a> in 1977. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\ncollection consists of some of Seiko\u2019s most iconic designs that have been\nreimagined to become part of the \u2018Save the Ocean\u2019 collection. For every \u2018Save\nthe Ocean\u2019 watch sold, Seiko donate a portion of the profit to a range of marine\nconservation charities, including Cousteau\u2019s own foundation. The watches in the\n\u2018Save the Ocean\u2019 collection allow the wearer to contribute positively towards\nmarine conservation whilst looking stylish and elegant in a reliable and\ndurable Seiko watch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nSeiko Prospex Antarctica Watches<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Several\n\u2018Save the Ocean\u2019 models have been part of Seiko\u2019s portfolio for some time, but\nthe newest additions have been heavily inspired by the landscape of Antarctica,\nthe largest marine sanctuary in the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Seiko Prospex Antarctica Tuna \u2018Save the Ocean\u2019 SRPG59K1<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The\nDial<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This new model uses the shape that has affectionately been nicknamed the \u2018Tuna\u2019 by fans of the brand. It has been said that its shape resembles that of a tuna tin. The colour of the dial moves from white to blue from the centre to the edge to mimic the appearance of light moving on ice. Small penguin footprints feature on the dial to remind the wearer of the species’ dwindling population. This reinforces how proceeds from the \u2018Save the Ocean\u2019 watches go towards sea conservation and environmental charities. The dial exhibits luminous hour and minute hands and a black second hand. A date aperture is positioned between 4 and 5 o\u2019clock and the hours are denoted by luminous dot indices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nCase and Strap<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

A\nrotating bezel surrounds the dial and Hardlex glass protects it. A stainless\nsteel case frames the dial. It measures 43.2mm in diameter, 44mm in length, and\n12.63mm in thickness. The crown is positioned at 4 o\u2019clock to minimise the\npressure that it will put on the back of the hand. This ensures that the watch\nis comfortable to wear. This watch is finished with a white silicone strap that\nfastens with a pin buckle. This choice of material ensures that the watch will\nremain comfortable to wear underwater. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nMovement<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The\nSeiko Prospex Antarctica Tuna is powered by an automatic calibre 4R35 movement that\nsupports manual winding. This movement gives the watch a power reserve of up to\n41 hours. This watch is water resistant up to 200 metres (20 bar) so it will be\nsuitable for almost every water based activity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seiko Prospex Antarctica Monster \u2018Save the Ocean\u2019 SRPG57K1<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The\nDial<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Similarly to the Tuna model, the dial features a white to blue gradient that is reminiscent of light on the ice of Antarctica. This model uses the design of Seiko\u2019s fondly named \u2018Monster\u2019 watches. They are named this way as they are said to resemble the open mouth of a monster with its teeth bared. The dial of this model also features the added detail of penguin footprints. Baton indices that have been treated with Lumibrite denote the hours. A weekday and date aperture are placed in the 3 o\u2019clock position. The dial exhibits luminous hour, minute and second hands and is protected by Hardlex glass. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nCase and Strap<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

A stainless steel rotating bezel surrounds the dial. It features Lumibrite elements so that the watch can be easily used in the dark. The dial is framed by a stainless steel case. It measures 42.43mm in diameter, 49.35mm in length and 13.4mm in thickness. The crown is placed in the 4 o\u2019clock position on the case to maximise the wearer\u2019s comfort. This model is finished with a stainless steel bracelet that fastens with a three-fold clasp and secure lock. It features a push button release with extender to ensure for a secure and comfortable fit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nMovement<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This watch is powered by an automatic movement of the calibre 4R36. This movement supports manual winding, so it can be hand wound if necessary. The watch has a generous power reserve of up to 41 hours. This watch is water resistant up to 200 metres (20 bar), to ensure that it can accompany its wearer on a great number of water-based adventures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
