Today Seiko<\/a> has launched its newest collaboration with anonymous artist Auto Moai. Anonymity and interpersonal connections are the main focus of the artist’s work and these concepts can be clearly seen in the Auto Moai limited edition watch. Seiko’s is not a stranger to collaborations and working with artists of all calibres and mediums, amongst which manga artists, musicians and traditional artists. The newest limited edition will be an addition to Seiko’s 5 Sport line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Auto Moai’s Art Style<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Not much is known about Japanese artist Auto Moai as the artist has chosen to keep their identity hidden over the years. Anonymity is the main theme of a large part of their work. Most if not all of their paintings feature faceless human figures, as a commentary on both the desired and forced anonymity within society. The artist views individuality within a social structure as extremely fragile and easily lost. With some of their most recent work, Auto Moai explores the meaning of human connection and relationship and the individual’s role. The artist’s work first rose to fame in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thought continuing the faceless motif throughout the exhibition “Anonymous” in Shinjuku\u2019s B Gallery at the end of last year, the artist utilised bolder lines and acrylics for a more highlighted pop art tone in their paintings. Similar bold lines and monochrome style have been used by Auto Moai in the design of the limited edition 5 Sport watch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seiko 5 Sports X Auto Moai Limited Edition SRPG43K1<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The model comes in an intricately designed box that resembles a coffee table art book. Contorted faceless figures, in the artist’s distinctive style, are featured on the box in black and white to match the colour palette of the watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Seiko<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

At first glance, the Auto Moai limited edition watch features an indistinguishable black and white pattern on its strap and bezel. When examined closer, however, similar figures to the ones on the box can be identified. The back and white strap which secures the watch is made of calfskin leather. The watch’s 42.5 mm case is made of black PVD plated stainless steel with a matt finish. An exhibition case back offers a glance into the watch’s movement. A black and white unidirectional bezel accents the watch’s 5 Sport silhouette. Protecting the dial is a Hardlex crystal. The dial itself is black with a sunray finish and features a faceless portrait outlined in matt black. Contrasting it are a set of luminescent hands and indices. A date and a day aperture are placed at the 3 o’clock position. Completing the design of the watch is the crown placed at 4 o’clock. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The watch has an automatic movement with calibre 4R36 and a power reserve of up to 41 hours. The timepiece is also water-resistant up to 100 meters of 10 bars. Only 1500 pieces of this watch are available worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
