This year has been a good one for fans of the cinema, especially for fans of 80’s sci-fi movies! First of all we had the return to the big screen of Terminator with another <\/i>sequel (complete with the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger as the T-800). Then we had \u201cBack To The Future Day\u201d to celebrate the day Marty McFly and Doc Brown travelled the future in Back To The Future 2. Now we have the re-release of the iconic watch worn by Sigourney Weaver in the movie Aliens.<\/p>\n

Of course, there’s still a bit more to come with the release of the latest Star Wars movie just around the corner (and you can already buy some awesome Star Wars Watches<\/a> for kids). But today we’re going to focus on the Aliens watch re-released by Seiko<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Aliens Watch Just One Of Seiko’s Movie Watches<\/i><\/h2>\n

Seiko have a history of movie tie-in watches \u2013 most notably releasing a range of top quality watches to tie in with the Star Wars prequel trilogy. But there is one movie watch which Seiko were well known for all the way back in the decade where the original Star Wars trilogy was still brand new.<\/p>\n

The Seiko 7A28-7000 was the Aliens watch worn by Sigourney Weaver’s character, Ripley, in Aliens \u2013 the second movie in the Alien franchise. The watch is well known for its appearance in the movie, where it certainly fits the bill of a sci-fi watch with its futuristic appearance.<\/p>\n

But it is also well known for a few other reasons, most notably because the Aliens watch itself was a giant leap forward in quartz technology. The Seiko 7A28-7000 was released in 1983 and was the first analogue quartz chronograph available on the market. During this time Japan was bringing out horological technology innovations all the time at the height of the quartz revolution<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The re-released version of the Aliens watch is called the Seiko Spirit Smart SCED035 and has a very similar appearance to the original watch. The only differences are that it comes in 2 colours \u2013 black and grey \u2013 and it is housed in waterproof casing. The retro-futuristic feel of the watch will be very tempting for anyone who loves 1980’s sci-fi movies!<\/p>\n

If you want an Aliens watch, you’ll need to act fast! There are only 3,000 of each colour being made and they are available for around $260-$290 (approx \u00a3171-\u00a3190) each. Not too much to pay for this homage to a piece of cinematic history!<\/p>\n

The Seiko Spirit Smart SCED035 is not only tempting for movie buffs, but anyone with an interest in horological technological advancements during the quartz revolution. The original Aliens watch was a step forward in quartz technology before it had even appeared on the big screen.<\/p>\n

For fans of Alien this re-release is an exciting piece of news, but there is even more exciting news this week in the Alien world. With the announcement that Prometheus 2 has been renamed \u201cAlien: Covenant\u201d this week, it is now clear that the movie will be a direct prequel to the original Alien movie. Whether this watch will make an appearance in the movie is unknown, but one thing is for certain \u2013 it is a movie well worth looking forward to!<\/p>\n
