Oris has a longstanding history of supporting non-profit organizations which deal with conservation of marine life and water conservation around the world. As a brand with an extensive diver\u2019s watch portfolio, Oris understands the importance of water. It understands the impact water quality has on the planet and on humanity. The Earth\u2019s oceans, seas, lakes are not only for recreation. Water is essential for the survival of almost every single flora and fauna species on the planter and the brand has placed paramount importance on its preservation. One of Oris\u2019 most recent partnerships has been with the Coral Restoration Foundation. To aid in the scientist\u2019 efforts, Oris has created the Oris Carysfort Reef Limited Edition.

Reefs and the Coral Restoration Foundation<\/strong>

The world\u2019s reefs are incredibly vulnerable right now. Scientists have estimated that in the last 30 years we have lost around 50 percent of the world\u2019s coral. At the rate that coral extinction is going, it\u2019s predicted that the corals could be extinct in 80 years. Coral reefs are extremely important to marine life and are an ecosystem themselves. Around 25 percent of ocean fish live in coral reefs so losing that habitat would cause extreme environmental imbalance. Some of the biggest dangers to corals are global warming, overfishing, pollution and physical damage. Global warming and the warming of the water causes corals to expel the algae living within them that give them their stunning colours and to turn completely white. This proves very stressful for the coral species and though they might survive a \u201cbleaching<\/a>\u201d it can lead to the death of the coral and ultimately the reef.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Coral Restoration Foundation is the world\u2019s largest coral reef restoration organisation in the world. This non-profit aims to conserve and restore the Florida Reef Tract. The organization has already restored more than 8000 square meters of coral in the Florida Keys reef system. That\u2019s more than 120 000 corals returned to the ecosystem. The Coral Restoration Foundation has been working with Oris since 2014 and with the brand\u2019s support, it is estimated that by the end of 2020 they would be able to plant close to 35 000 corals on the Carysfort Reef. The reef is of cultural significance as it was a part of the early recreational diving industry and is also where the first-ever underwater colour photograph was taken.

Oris Carysfort Reef Limited Edition<\/strong>

In order to support the organization, Oris has released the Carysfort Reef watch. It is limited to 2000 pieces and comes in 2 variations. One with a stainless steel bracelet and one with an orange rubber strap. The timepiece has a classic silhouette and carries a distinctive Oris aesthetic. Made of stainless steel the case measures at 43.5 mm in diameter. It features a ridged ceramic bezel with a laser engraved GMT scale. The screwed case back has a special for the model engraving. To increase the watch\u2019s durability, the dial is encased with a scratch-resistant domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. The watch\u2019s dial is a sunray blue with thick retro-inspired indices and hands. Both the indices and hands are luminescent. The dial also features a secondary hour dial with orange Arabic numeral hour-markers. A special function on this model is that it can track 3 separate time zones, one on the main dial, a centre hand with a subsidiary scale and the bezel can also be used as a tertiary time zone. The model has a date aperture at the 3 o\u2019clock position, date and 24-hour corrector, a fine-timing device and stop-second. Its movement type is automatic and the watch has a power reserve of up to 42 hours. It is also water-resistant to 30 bars.
