Luminox Watches Partner With Alex Hibbert<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Luminox<\/a> have recently announced that they are proud to introduce a brand new partner and friend\u00a0of the brand, Alex Hibbert<\/a>, as they look to support him in his next two expeditions this January and February! Alex is a world record holding explorer\/adventurer, holding the record for being the polar traveler who has skied further on an unsupported Arctic journey than anyone else in history. So the perfect person for Luminox Watches<\/a> to be supporting and having as part of the family.<\/p>\n

Back in July 2008, Hibbert completed a 1374 mile, 113 day ‘Long Haul’ round trip, crossing a new ice sheet route along with his team-mate, George Bullard<\/a>. During the trip they received no resupplies and no physical support from anyone but each other, and actually went on to complete the final week on next to no food!<\/p>\n

Starting right now, through the winter of 2019, Alex Hibbert will attempt not one, but two, world record expeditions! Venturing to different regions of the Arctic, the main focus for Alex will be an athletic and technical challenge against the clock for both missions. This test will condense Alex’s hundreds of days of experience, into fast and intense challenges to really push his body and mind to it’s limits. Throughout these challenges, every navigational decision he makes, and his equipment choices will dictate his success or failure, which is where Luminox watches come in, offering the support and reliability where needed, where every second counts!<\/p>\n

Expedition One: Western Greenland – North of the Arctic Circle<\/strong><\/h3>\n

With the support of Luminox Watches, Alex will be setting off on his journey, which will take him between the coastal Inuit community of Sisimiut and Kangerlussuaq. The 165km Arctic circle route is a notorious route for being challenging and pushing the body to the extremes. Yet remains one of the most stunning places on Earth. He is planning on making the journey during the winter, when the valleys, mountains and lakes will be covered with the thickest snow, making conditions as challenging as ever, demanding extreme precaution and dedication to complete. It is unlikely that he will see another person for the whole of the trip, unless a local Greenlander makes the journey by sled, an unlikely event! The route begins with steep, mountainous passes, which then slowly begin to turn to colder, and more exposed, presenting a brand new challenge for Alex, meaning that there is no downtime, and no time for relaxing. As he tackles the journey he may have to fight blizzards, freezing cold water on thinly iced lakes, deep snow drifts, and many more daunting challenges. It is expected for a standard explorer to take a week or more on foot for this particular route, however, Alex will be aiming to half this time, aiming for that world record and starting his 2019 in the best way possible.<\/p>\n

Expedition Two: Svalbard – High Arctic Island Group (Norway\/Russia)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The second expedition, still with Luminox watches supporting him along the way, Alex is set to venture further north in search of his second world record (if the first goes to plan). This February he is heading in to the High Arctic, taking his quest for speed up a notch! He has identified a route on the main island of the remote polar island group of Svalbard. Home to not much, apart from a few hardy locals, caribou and polar bears! A true test of stamina, fitness and instinct, the journey will push Alex and test everything he’s learned over the years. As he attempts to set the 24 hour polar ski distance world record, which will be the longest distance achieved by a skier in the polar region. A large portion of the route will be covered in complete darkness, making navigation and motivation even more difficult, as well as the awareness of the islands polar bear population! Throughout his 24 hour attempt, Alex is planning on only stopping briefly for food and drink, and will only be taking a small amount of supplies in order to travel light. His World Record attempt will aim to set a new bar for athletic performance in the icy regions, and is projected to begin around 25th Feb.<\/p>\n
