Hollywood actor Robin Williams watch collection was as wild and wonderful as everything else he did –\u00a0<\/em>acquired from a lifetime of amassing memorabilia and art.<\/h4>\n

Robin Williams watch collection has been auctioned off at\u00a0Sotheby\u2019s New York<\/a> this month, amassing a value much higher than expected, with some really interesting pieces being sold from the late actors expansive career!<\/p>\n

Sold as a collection under the headline\u00a0Creating a Stage: The Collection of Marsha and Robin Williams, <\/em><\/a><\/strong>The auction sold over 300 fantastic lots that reflected the huge range of interests and wonderful careers of Robin Williams<\/a> and his wife of 20 years, film producer and philanthropist Marsha Garces Williams<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It was a well known fact that Robin Williams was a fan of his watches, and you may have spotted some seriously impressive timepieces in interviews and public appearances, if your eyes always go straight to the wrist like ours! He has previously been spotted wearing watches such as Cartier<\/a>‘, a Panerai Luminor<\/a> and an IWC Pilot’s double chronograph<\/a>! Like a true watch collector, Williams wasn’t just solely attracted to these hugely expensive Hollywood<\/a> watches. He was known to go after timepieces that interested him, the different, unique watches that he saw as being special, and having much more story and sentimental value is where he wanted to spend his money.<\/p>\n

Of the\u00a0$6.1 million raised by the auction, selling pieces of Robin’s life, in art and film memorabilia, furniture and much more, his watches sold for\u00a0$445,000, which was actually double the expected value.\u00a0A portion of the proceeds raised by the auction are going to charities supported by the couple. We have taken a look at a few of the watches sold at the auction, and picked out a coupe of our favorites which we thought we really interesting!<\/p>\n

\"Robin<\/p>\n

One of the most interesting for us, was the Hamilton watch<\/a> that Robin wore in the film Dead Poets Society<\/em><\/a>. This fantastic watch was engraved on the back with a message reading\u00a0Robin Williams<\/em>\u00a0Dead Poet Society<\/em>\u00a01988, <\/em>and was presented to him once filming for the hit movie had wrapped, really making it a piece of iconic movie memorabilia. The watch had been estimated by the\u00a0Sotheby\u2019s team to fetch around $1\/2,000, but in fact managed to reach a hefty $32,500 by the end of the lot.<\/p>\n

The watch that fetched the most at the auction was the\u00a0Franck Muller fine white gold tonneau-shaped Minute Repeating Tourbillon Wristwatch .Ref 6850 which reach a price tag of\u00a0$52,500, double its expected price!<\/p>\n

There was a total of 45 pieces from Robin Williams watch collection sold. incuding the Hamilton and Franck Muller mentioned above. The other watches auctioned included a\u00a0Daniel Roth perpetual calendar in white gold from 1990, a\u00a0Panerai Compass, which was actually one of the very first watches produced when the brand was re-born in the 1990s, an Alain Silberstein Triple Calendar Chronograph from 1995 and many many more!<\/p>\n

As previous mentioned, a portion of the proceeds will go towards charities that the couple were invested in, including Human Rights Watch<\/a>, the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation<\/a>, Challenged Athletes Foundation<\/a>, St. Jude\u2019s Children\u2019s Research Hospital<\/a> and Wounded Warrior Project<\/a>. Proceeds from the sale will also be used to help establish a permanent Robin Williams Scholarship Fund at The Juilliard School<\/a> in New York.<\/p>\n
