The A-Z of Watch Brands: J is for Junghans and Jacques Du Manoir

Junghans

Founded in 1861 in Schramberg, Germany, Junghans has long been celebrated for its commitment to precision, innovation, and clean design. The brand gained international recognition in the mid-20th century through its collaboration with Bauhaus designer Max Bill, whose minimalist aesthetic still defines much of Junghans’ identity today. Known for their restrained dials, balanced proportions, and understated elegance, Junghans watches blend German engineering with timeless style; resulting in pieces that feel both classic and refreshingly modern.

Junghans Meister S Automatic 36

The Meister S Automatic 36 in mint-green pairs sporty robustness with refined style; a perfect everyday companion. Its 36mm stainless steel case houses the in-house automatic calibre J800.1 with a 38-hour power reserve. A date window features at 3 o’clock. The dial’s vibrant mint-green hue, applied silver-tone baton indices, and partially skeletonised hands (all coated with environmentally friendly luminous material) give the watch a modern, fresh look while ensuring legibility even in low light. A domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal and a polished-and-satin stainless-steel bracelet with a folding clasp complete the build. And with 100 metres of water resistance, it’s as practical and durable as it is elegant.

Jacques Du Manoir

Jacques Du Manoir emerged in Switzerland in the 1990s, building on the country’s long-standing watchmaking heritage with a focus on accessible luxury. While not as old as some traditional Swiss maisons, the brand carved out its niche. That niche is a blending of classic European elegance with reliable quartz movements and high-quality finishing. Its watches often feature refined details, capturing a timeless, dressy aesthetic without the premium price tag. The result is a collection that feels both sophisticated and wearable, appealing to those who appreciate Swiss style made effortlessly approachable.

Jacques Du Manoir Horizon Quartz

The Jacques Du Manoir Horizon Quartz perfectly combines classic Swiss craftsmanship with reliable, everyday functionality. Its textured black dial features sleek silver-tone baton indices and hands. Moreover, a subtle date window features at 6 o’clock, creating a look that is both sophisticated and contemporary. Housed in a 41 mm stainless steel case and finished with a matching bracelet, this watch blends durability and style. Powered by a Swiss quartz movement and water-resistant up to 100 metres, it’s an elegant, versatile timepiece suited for the office, formal occasions, or daily wear.

From the minimalist elegance of Junghans to the refined appeal of Jacques Du Manoir, the letter J offers a glimpse into the diversity of the watch world. While there are many other J brands out there, these two exemplify the quality and style we proudly offer; showing just how much character and innovation can be found in a single letter of the alphabet.
