At first glance, a watch tells you the time, and nothing else. So why buy a luxury watch when you can order a £10 watch off Amazon?
It turns out that there are many benefits of owning a luxury watch. Some are intuitive…but others you would have never guessed.
1. People Will Think You’re Smarter
There’s a phenomenon called the halo effect that affects just about everyone who can see. The gist of it is that more attractive people seem smarter, happier, and more successful.
The term dates back to the 1920’s, but it wasn’t until 1972 when it was really put to the test.
At the University of Minnesota, three professors took 60 students from around campus for the study. The students were asked to answer a variety of questions that related to how smart and successful they thought a person was based on a photograph. The results confirmed the halo effect: attractive people were rated as more likely to be successful and happy.
Two years later, professors Landy and Sigall did a similar study, but focused on intelligence. Guess what happened? That’s right, attractive people were judged to be more intelligent as well.
Let’s face it, a luxury watch is one of the easiest ways to instantly become more attractive. Well, affording it may not be easy, but after you take care of that – you’re golden. Considering the limited amount of accessories that a man has to choose from, it’s also one of your only options.
2. You’ll Stand Out
Everyone knows that one guy that can walk into any room and everyone looks at. Not many can pull this off.
There are different ways to stand out so that people are forced to pay attention; one way is with a luxury watch.
The bottom line is that people notice things that are uncommon. It may be an extremely good-looking person, an exceptionally large person, or it can even be someone who dresses a cut above the rest. Luxury watches are NOT common, and they do stand out.
Where a Rolex for a bit and watch how you will be introduced to other people.
“Hey, this is [YOU!], check out his incredible watch”
It will become your calling card and you’ll become associated with the highest luxury most people can only dream about.
3. You’ll Be Taken Seriously
A luxury watch automatically communicates that you do business. To put it simply, it’s impressive.
People won’t think you’re a nobody, they’ll take the initiative to get to know you and learn from you because they want to be like you. Additionally, many women can’t resist the allure of such a high-status accessory.
This is especially important if you’re in a field that requires appearing as an authority or selling products and services.
4. The Increased Status
Do you know why most Fortune 500 CEOs wear luxury watches?
They do it for all the reasons in other reasons in this article, but primarily to give a first impression that they are the elite.
They don’t look like the average person, and they don’t get results like the average person. While this doesn’t mean they are necessarily a better person than the average person, that’s precisely what they emanate.
Think about your favorite athlete or celebrity. Do they wear clothes from Walmart? No, they wear luxury designer brands and use luxury products, including watches.
When you put on a luxury watch, people assume you’re high class. This can open doors in both your personal and professional life.
5. You Have Art on-the-Go
Anyone who thinks all watches are the same have never taken the time to look at the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into a top-notch watch.
The complexity and scale of the all the gears and pieces that work together are art, plain and simple. Some watches take months to make from experts that have spent their whole life in the field.
Having a luxury watch is great when you just want to look at something elegant and beautiful. When you’re having a bland day, a quick flick of the wrist is enough to bring a smile to your face.
6. They Make Great Heirlooms
Think of the most common heirlooms that are passed down through generations of a family? One of the first few answers is always a watch.
A luxury watch is timeless and will be an attention-grabber no matter what time period it’s worn in, and overall they’re just special. That’s what makes it the perfect accessory to pass down to your children.
Additionally, luxury watches typically last for an extremely long time and can always be repaired every 5 to 10 years if needed.
7. They Retain Value
Luxury cars are also the pinnacle of personal status, but they lose a significant amount more of their value in general than watches.
If you do buy a luxury watch for investment purposes, or you plan to sell it one day, you have to buy carefully. You either need to find an exceptionally rare watch, or stick with one of the two most prestigious brands: Patek Philippe and Rolex. Of course new brands may establish similar reputations in the future that lead to sustained product value, but for now these are the best bets.
Even if you don’t have a ton of disposable income, you can buy a luxury watch, wear it for a few years, and then sell it for a similar amount.
8. They Tell the Time (and Last)
Last but not least, they are better watches than the rest. Do you know why Patek Philippe watches cost so much? Because they are hand-crafted by masters over a period of 10-24 months per watch. These watches are as close to perfection as you can get. In some professions, where having the exact right time is necessary, a luxury watch can be a great asset.
For the regular person, the durability is also an asset. You don’t have to worry about them breaking down or glitching up. A true luxury watch will keep the time perfectly year after year with very minor occasional maintenance.
